5900 needle

Detector works fine, just the needle seems to be stuck in position. Occasionally it will move, I did look on White's site and they recommend wiping screen with damp soapy cloth. Did that with no change. Anyone run into this?

Try pulling & releasing the mode change trigger under the meter.....this resets the electronics A lot of time the meter will stick to the right after the coil passes over a hot rock or a man made high mineral slope like decomposed iron flakes. Just pull then release the trigger.

I had that happen a time or two after i rubbed dust off of the plastic while hunting in the field but didnt realize that rubbing the screen side to side caused a static charge strong enough to freeze the needle ... when i rubbed the screen from top to bottom it removed the static charge and returned to normal...

I bet it's either static electricity like bootyhoundpa says or just needs a reset per hombre's suggestion. You can also wipe the meter with anti-static cling dryer sheets to remove the static.

I sent my 5900 CB to Sweet Home, OR and it only cost me shipping, they fixed and returned it for free...

But that was 10 years ago, policies might have changed since then.

Policy changed just a little, but my detector was fixed and it's on the way back

Great to hear. White's customer service truly can't be beat. Even when you pay for a repair, the cost is always very reasonable. And it's great that they can still repair the older analog models. Now go out there and get 'em with that 5900!

Got my machine in, works like it's supposed too. Now to get time to get out and learn it

I like to use a smaller 6½ inch diameter concentric coil along with a higher Signal Balance setting to better handle the trashy areas. The 10 turn Ground Balance if used properly along with a hotter Signal Balance setting allows for a slower sweep speed to maneuver though the iron nail trash. An operator can also swing the small coil faster with the 5900 with it being a 4 filter instrument. The 5900 is a great machine......GL & HH
