5900 di pro

There advances are so much so..... The Spectrums left it in yesteryear and Max Depth is much more of an importance now, especially on coin sized targets. The 5900 was my first machine and I loved it for a good 6 years. Then the Eagle Spectrum hit the market and I never look back. Todays machines are much better equipped for the environmental/conditional needs of all detectorists. Its just outdated.

I own and still use the XL PRO... which is the 5900's bigger brother. I love the Anolog read out. I find it to be much more accurate then any of the digital readouts. I have owned and used most of the higher end machines, But keep coming back to my XL PRO.
Just my Worthless opion.

I too have used all sorts of different mahines, sov, fischer, mxt, quatro, excell, and a few tesoro's. My 5900 DI kicks them all, not only on I.D., but sometimes on depth depending on ground conditions. Along with the Bigfoot coil for open spaces, 2-300 coins a day is no problem- I normally stop after 80 quarters- thats 10.00 bucks in clad, along with dimes and every nickle signal, have found some nice gold bands and a Platnum and diamond ring just shy of the nickle mark. Guess its all about knowing your machine and discrimination patterns. That and the sites were hunting. My two cents turned into a dime I guess.

So of us old farts still like to full control of our tectors.
5900,XLPRO and Nautilus in the hands OF OLD AND SOMETIMES YOUNG FARTS are hard to beat.
But add computers to detectors and you can sell more of them and still some of them have a long learning curve.THE 5900 CAN STILL GO AS DEEP AS MOST OF THE NEW DETECTORS IF YOU KNOW HOW TO US IT. i CAN CLOCK A DIME AT 9 PLUS WITH THAT OLD GAL.THE XLPRO IS A SEABISCUIT OF A DETECTOR
Think about a detector that started out in 1985 as the 6000 and 2005 it is still selling as the XLPRO and it is a PRO of a detector.
Yes I do love this unit.

I wouldn't be without it! It may not be great on depth, however I have hit quarters at 6 inches. Doe's cover alot of ground in a short time.

Im fixin to buy one new. reason being I have one of the new "relic machines" and my bud will slap wear me out with his Blue/Grey. steady poping 3 ringers at 12 inches all day.

I realize this thread is 10 years old but I need to add a cent and a half or two cents. I still have my White's 5900 di pro sl that I bought brand new years ago. I am now 61 and after having both shoulder cuffs torn up in 2006 while moving stuff around after a tornado, I can no longer take the weight of the 5900 all day like I could years ago. I guess this may be a dirty word on this forum but I just bought a minelab x-terra 505 because of its light weight. It is a really fine machine but I doubt that it will find anything that the old 5900 won't. Oh, by the way the old 5900 still works as well as it did the day that I took it out of the box. The 5900 di pro sl is still a great all around, jack of all trades, machine.

Hi,
The hip mount kit is still available - at least in Ireland at the Whites factory.
And yes - weight is a major issue if you detect for hours on end.
I sold my 6000 DiProSL for that exact reason - the battery pack with 4 C-cells weighs about as much as the complete control box from my modified Tesoro Compadre with dual disc.
Metal detecting is supposed to be fun .
I personally do not find it fun to swing around excess weight in my limited spare time.
I do enough of that when at work.
And if anyone claims that the 5900 is much deeper than the XLT - then that person hasn´t figured out how to tune his/her XLT for optimum results.
One thing that is a fact - the analog meters are more stable.
But you take any VOM with a digital meter and compare it to one with an analog meter and you will have the same results.

The 5900 was one of White's best. It had the best of analog including full manual ground balance. I still prefer the XL Pro but only for the light weight. If only the XL Pro had manual ground balance control like the 5900...

I wish there was a way to retrofit the 5900's manual ground balance control to the XL Pro. That would be the perfect mod for the XL Pro and would make it the perfect detector. Somebody should get a hold of some schematics and figure out how to do it! :poke: I'd be the first one in line to get it done.
