583 ring

Rob (IL)

New member
Got out for 2 days this week and found the usual clad. I just had my shoulder done the 2 th. I found this ring my fourth ring gold in about 5 weeks. At first I thought it was not gold, it was stamped 583. I looked it up and found it was 14kt gold. It was an 18 VDI.

At a soccer field I found the 36 buffalo and a 44 wheatie. I also found this pin (or button). It says Joliet 100,000 club. What makes it neat is it comes from a steel mill where my father worked. It was given to the crew that got 50 tons of steel through the mill on their shift. Rob

thats an intresting pice of history for sure, testemony to americas great industreal might be for global econimy and the loss of all those steel jobs

Very nice ring! I have found a few rings that are marked "583" and "585" for 14 karat and .417 for 10 karat. In Europe and many other countries the decimal system is used for marking the karat value on their gold jewelry. That stone looks a little lighter in color than a garnet. Do you think it could be a ruby? I hope so! Mike

Thanks Mike, one of these days the wife is going to have some of the rings checked and resized. The last 3 fit her nicely. Rob
