58 degrees in January...using a new coil...and my first dig of 2012 is.....

this real "purty", orange clad dime from about 7" deep:bouncy:

I have been messing with this new coil to see how well it does for me here in IL.

Please don't ask or message me about what coil...what size...where you can get one...if I like it...etc.

I don't believe it's available from any of our sponsors...and I will in no way, shape, or form disrespect any of our great dealers on this forum.

At this point after using it at a couple of my hammered sites all I will say is that it unmasks very well and hits tiny, deep targets extremely well for it's size.

My main coils continue to be the SEF...Sunray.... Minelab pro....AND the Minelab 1050 when I need a dose of "smooth"

Anyway...I was personal training a lady at the gym today and she politely invited me to hunt her yard if I wanted.

I only had an hour inbetween appointments...but it was 58 degrees and sounded fun. I wouldn't have dreamed of being able to hunt in January here in IL...so off I went.

As I showed above...my first dig of 2012 was a stinkin' clad dime from 7"...but it got better from there.

I don't believe anyone else had hunted the yard before...unless they had a pretty crappy machine:rolleyes:...and it was a lot of fun in a short amount of time.

In less than 45 minutes I ended up with 3 wheaties...3 Mercs...and 2 more of those "purty" orange dimes:clapping:

It was an interesting yard to say the least...dry as a bone in spots...yet black and soggy in other spots.

I could squeak another 45 minute hunt in between my other appointments today...BUT the 58 degree weather AND the Harley are luring me to put some wind in my face:thumbup:

Again....amazed and thankful to get the first hunt of 2012 in January....[attachment 219558 wowflaming.gif]

I bet I can guess what coil you used. I just received my 2 in the mail. The 12 X 13" and the 9.5 X 5.5", which will get their first work-out this weekend!

Weather was incredible today. Nice that you were able to get the first hunt of the year under your belt.
You still use the 1050 coil some?

Nice finds there Bryce! Almost unbelievable weather for this time of year. It's been an unusualy warm winter. I've been out myself on some of these nice days over the past few weeks. In the past two hunts I've dug 3 Mercs, 4 Silver Rosies, 1 Silver Washington, 6 Wheats and about 12 or so memorials! Dug all of those with the 1050 on the SE. Today I managed to hunt at 29 sensitivity in manual mode. It was real chatty, but did get them deep. Anyway, Just thought I would share that with all you guys. I need to post more instead of just lurking. Thanks!

Amazing weather and another great hunt Bryce..........I know what you mean about them 7 inch clad dimes, yesterday I had a real nice deep quarter hit and was hoping for silver and out popped a 1965 quarter........missed by a year

As for the weather..........who said global warming was BAD!!!

HH - Hawkeye Jim.

Understood about no questions on the coil......... Keep us posted on how it works out over all...........

I'd say that was a great "first" hunt of the year. Temp is supposed to be 50 on Sat and 40's on Sun here in Ct. I'll be able to get out for a while Sun - can't wait!

6 old coins in 45 minutes sounds good to me. Please update with a post after you figure out whether the mystery coil is a good one for you. Was curious to know if you have been putting any hunt time on your E-trac?...even though I know you prefer the explorer. Thanks

Looking forward to the report on that coil Bryce when you finish putting it through its paces.
The coins you found today could have been found by any of the coils you mentioned above.
So Guess we will need to wait until you hit the old stand-by places that have been hunted and
see how the newbie does for you. 58* in January here too.....totally unreal.
Gold Nuggets :wiggle:

Great first hunt of the year. Hope the new coil works out and please let us know either way. I think I know which coil you are using and have seen videos of them on an Etrac so am curious as to how they do on the explorers.

I will gladly trade you 3 purty orange dimes for your 3 ugly silver ones. Let me know where to send them. I found something COOL about my bank. They will take ALL my coins black orange, corroded cents EVERYTHING. They have a coin counter and I just turned in 109.00 yesterday. I asked them before and they said they just send them to the mint. NO cleaning, NO coinstar, just nice folding bills for my underwater finds!!!!

Bryce, your going to be real bummed if you ever field clean a 1916D dime or a 1926S dime. Been there done that TWICE. Take a very small jar of olive oil and put your silver in it. Get home and run the coins under hot water. You will be a lot farther ahead if you stumble upon a rare coin.

Good start to the new year bud. Good luck with the new coils.

use the E-Trac some,,,but the SE is my #1 detector and gets about 75% of my time.

I originally posted only 2 mercs but then edited it to include the 3rd one I found which wes done so with the E-Trac.

They were all found within the same 45 minute hunt.

Thanks

Nice hunt buddy. Will be interesting to see how it does at our field site.

Nice triple score to start the season.

Congratulations on the finds Bryce! Thanks for the story and the pictures!
