505 Same Depth as 705?

Will the 505 have the same depth as the 705 with the same size stock coils?

Yep! Biggest difference between the two is the finer discrimination and additional features that the 705 has.

Great! The only reason I ask is because I see some GREAT deals on used 505's. Yeah, a few less features, but I am sure it is still probably a decent detector.

Rainyday, have you seen any of my post. In 2012 I found 202 silver coins and 123 IH's. I've found silver Dimes and IH's as deep as 12" and I use the X-505.

The 705 has a few more nice features but the 505 can get the job done. :)

A lot more than just decent!

Owned both of them a short while back and my 'field test' (unscientific at best) revealed that the depth was the same. I could not find any targets with my 705 that I could not also find with my 505 when using the same coil on each. This applied to the CC and DD coils I have.

Hope this helps.

So if I were to use it only for coinhunting in mild soil, would the 505 be all I really need? I don't relic hunt or prospect for gold in Wisconsin.

Need???
In mild soil, all you "need" is a beep & dig machine if you're going to dig it all. To me, the 705 is worth it for the flexibility to go anywhere on dry land that I might ever want to go. The Tracking, Tracking offset, Pinpoint Sizing, Prospector mode, Beach mode, auto Noise Cancel, and finer Discrimination resolution make the 705 so far superior to use, that I can't see not paying the difference to have it all.

Thanks Old Longhair. I already have one beep and dig silver umax. The kids will be using that. I just wanted a better land detector for myself. I will drop the few extra bucks and go with the 705. There's nothing wrong with a little added flexibility.
