5000/D differences

What are the main difference(s) with the White's 5000/D VS. 5000/D series 2 metal detectors ???

Tony C.

the 5000/D was a VLF (GEB) & TR-Disc. model. In 1981 White's brought out the 6000/D Series 2, and in 1982 they extended product developments to include a 'Series 2' 5000/D. This time it had three modes of operation (they stated four, but it was only three). You could select the familiar TR-Disc. mode, or the GEB All Metal mode, or the GEB-Disc. motion Discriminate mode.

You had two selections for the GEB All Metal mode: GEB/Norm and GEB/Max.

While it appeared somewhat similar to the 6000/D Series 2, it wasn't. The 5000D/ Series 2 had a smaller-size intensity meter while the 6000/D Series 2 had the larger meter with Coin Depth Read-Out. The 6000/D Series 2 also had the 'fancier' looking knobs while the 5000/D used the older-style knobs.

But they also had different circuitry. The same operating Mode selection, but different circuitry. The 6000/D Series 2 stated it had about 30% or 33% increase in power in GEB/Max over GEB/Norm. The 5000/D Series 2 had an increase of 27% in GEB/Max over GEB/Norm.

Still, the 5000/D Series 2 was the superior detector between it and the former 'original' 5000/D due to the addition of the motion discriminate circuitry, especially.

You have a vast knowledge of past and present detectors thats unmatched.
Have you ever thought of publishing some of your wisdom..........

Ie: Detectors/Now & Then

It would be invaluable information for all of us.

Thanks Monte,

Now I know what to look for in the two metal detectors.
