From the land of the Bluenose.....well my bags were packed and I was ready to go but not on a jet plane but with Fast Eddy in the Thunderbolt Grease Slapper Special on our way to the annual Legion Canada Day Weekend Ball Tournament in Prince Edward Island.

One could tell that Fast Eddy's son Trevor was in the groove for this trip!

The trip seemed to be over before it started as Fast Eddy had rock n' roll tunes on to which we added our vocal expertise which didn't even wake Trevor from Lala Land. Going over the Confederation Bridge was rather cool as it is the longest bridge in the world (so I was told you) connecting Prince Edward Island to the mainland in New Brunswick but unfortunately the side walls are so high that it affords a limited view.

Once we arrived in Border-Carleton the search was on for the "Smart Shop" (liquor store) and I asked a few of the locals for directions. Lord love a duck. The first bouy I asked just grinned at me and never said a word.

Bouy was without a doubt anti social.
So I just moved on down the boardwalk and asked the next gipper where it was and he just "flew" away without a backwards glance.

Strange lot youz in the "Land of the Spud" but I had a one track mind you and that was to track down Bud and his cousins. Saw another bouy standing by a shop and thank goodness I was down wind when I asked where the liquor store was for he just turned the other cheek and mowsed on down the road. The nerve you...darn right shocking.

Well I finally found Bud after receiving directions from "Anne of Green Gables" who pointed using her index finger to show me the way.

and was joined by Fast Eddy and Trevor and drove to the motel where we settled in lickety split and headed out back to join in the washer and dice games along with partaking in some refreshments. Of course "Big Al every kiddies pal" was talking to Bud and directing the action and the odds.

By far the most popular bouy on the team was Terry and his "traveling tavern" where Bud and about a 100 of his relatives were housed. Many seemed to disappear during our two day stint.

Well we all survived the evening getting up very early the next morning for our first game at nine which we won handily 14-4. Feeling like a pod of killer whales we posed for a team photo taken by Deb who is Oscar's wife and no me son she doesn't live in an aquarium. Notice the fine looking bouy in the black and green Garrett hat in the second row.

After this photo I pulled out the old Freedom 3 Plus and began to search around the ballfield which netted me quite a few coins in a short time which was all I had till the opening ceremonies featuring the Legion Colour Guard and the salute to our nation's birthday.

After losing a squeaker by one run in the last inning I jaunted across the street to look at the vintage aircraft on display outside of the Summerside base.

Crossing back to the other side of the road I resumed my digging as I had a bit of time to swing. Came up with a 1964 silver dime as well as 1940 and 1950 nickel and several young bust Elizabeth ones. Had my quota just before our next game which we breezed through winning 16-4 even though I walked the first two batters and struggled to find the strike zone the whole game.
Next game in the cross over we lost a heartbreaker in the last inning and were knocked out of the tournament and headed home. Fun weekend for sure and was greeted at home by Marie who had justed returned home from a shopping trip in Bangor, Maine. Holy bank account!
Take for the island dig 64 coins @ $4.24 including a 1964 dime, 1940 and 1950 nickel, fun zone token, dinkie, lock, brass ring without the circus and a dewy.
