50 coin day: December silver

From the land of the Bluenose.....woke up promptly at 0445 and went through the morning ritual only to realize I had the day off! Lord love a duck losing it big time. Crawled back into bed for another 15 minutes and got up and checked the detecting forums which sure slow down this time of the year. Looking outside it dawned on me that the ground was super wet and the snow was just about all gone. That was it and I began my plan to worm a dig! Breakie in bed for Marie and away I went although she was a tad upset being woken up at five thirty in the morning. As I entered the bedroom with tray in had and before I could get a word out she said... "Yes you can go for a dig."

Ten minutes later in the predawn I was merrily on my way down the highway to hit a school yard that I had never done. Had to stop at Tim's as in my haste to get out forgot to eat so a snack was in order and besides it was still dark out. Ran into an old buddy whom I used to play ball with when I pitched senior fastball and we exchanges lies and wishes for the season and I was on my quest again.

The schoolyard was a tad on the muddy side but I came prepared with the lobster gloves and Kermit boots so I managed to stay dry but not clean.

Not long afterwards I had my fifty coin day albeit most being pennies but it was a treat to be out this time of the year. Checked my old log books and this is in fact the latest I have ever dug in the year.

With the quota in my jacket pocket I headed to the old faithful and wandered around the Dingle and picked up two coins..a 1963 dime and a 1943 "Victory" nickle as well as a musketball.

Take for the day was the above mentioned and a dog tag which I was hoping the mutt that wore it had drowned in one of the puddles on the field as doggy dew was without a doubt in season and 52 coins @ $3.42.

Tumbling some more pennies so that once the can is empty the contest on my forum will end. Finding that the stainless steel pellets work a lot better then the aquarium gravel although it was $20 a pound for the darn things. Um! If I put a rush on and make supper maybe i can suckhole yet another dig if the weather hold on Sunday!

... you and them danged silver coins! I cant find a one and here you go again, buoy! The only way I get them is if you send 'em to me! You are the man.

Nice day of it, fella.

BTW, I am the proud owner of a Nova Scotian Crest pinback, replete with "Bluenose" herself emblazned proudly upon it. All courtesy of our man Les, there. Did you know that a Bluenose is both a Nova Scotian and a schooner? Here's the story:

"Bluenose was a Canadian schooner from Nova Scotia, a celebrated racing ship and a symbol of the province. The name "bluenose" originated as a nick-name for Nova Scotian cod fishermen and has become associted with all residents of the province.
