5 x 10" 18.75 kHz Minelab X-Terra Search Coil?????

seriously??? Are you really asking if the coil finds only nuggets and not coins and rings???

No, the coil will work like other coils and locate objects made of metals.

Read what my post (Mtnmn) listed under "Sweep Speed?" on this same forum has to say about the 5x10" DD HfF coil ...

I have a four bags of coins that is getting bigger every day (Approx 20.00 in clad). Quarters, dimes, pennies, nickels, and a whole lot of other things suchs bullets, bullet shells, junk jewelry, silver rings, ect. I have had the detector a few weeks now and i hope to post my findings soon. So, this detector does pick up coins and many many other things. I haven't been too many places where depth is an option, i have been learning this detector and looking for shallow coins, 0-3inches. This gives me great target seperation with a good TID. Last week i found a dime next to a pull tab and a nail, i used the propointer and pulled them out first, waved my 705 again and the target was still there, pulled a penny, as that is what i expected by looking and listening to the TID.

The sweep speed is important as I am finding out. Usually after 3-4 sweeps you know what you have by the TID but even it can be off a little. It will surprise you what you find. Bottle tops, the same for coke and pepsi bottles ring up as quarters, no way around that for now. I usually hunt in TR mode 3 with all tones. I just look for a good high sound, consistent TID, then i will also use the pro-pointer to see if the target is large, shallow/deep, then dig if not large and depending on the depth meter of my detector versus the pinpointers reaction.

The guy who told you that is either pulling your leg or is completely unfamiliar with the X-TERRA and the elliptical coil. As I've said many times, all the coils are capable of finding anything metal. But depending on the design, shape and frequency, one coil may provide better results than another, in specific hunting situations. HH Randy

Depth? This will vary....and will be relative to: soil conditions, i.e. mineralisation, salt, black sand etc; size of target, i.e. your dimes as distinct from your quarter dollars etc. small rings, large rings; composition of object, i.e. is it made of one metal only, or is it a composite of several metals; type of metals which make up the object....and the list goes on, and each member could probably add another factor to the list.... sorry, this does not answer your question, but the variations which can affect depth are so numerous it's a bit like asking "how long is a piece of string?" JMO

cant you give me an estimated??? i know that soil conditions etc etc will make a difference but man there's has to be an estimate

taking in accout the benefits that you get from using the 5" x 10" 18.75 kHz coil, as compared with other coils on the same machine, my estimate would be "good". If it wasn't any good, I wouldn't keep using mine.

I've found silver dimes at 8" with the 5x10 in moderately mineralized soil if that helps. My favorite Xterra coil.
