Haven't posted in a while...hunting has been good this past summer but not as good as last Sunday! Went hunting with a fellow Spamtowner and new Etrac owner Pete. We met at a Park/Skating Pond/Sliding Hill in town here. I had always thought part of the park along the base of the hill was private property but Pete had permission at one of the houses and informed me this was not the case and it was ok to detect around the bottom of the hilly area to the pond. Showed Pete around the Etrac menu's a bit and talked about the numbers and sounds and then it was off detecting around the edge of the skating pond which was at a record low level. Managed to get a 1928 Wheat but that was about it. I think Pete got some clad too. Then we went about sweeping the hillside. The area was pretty clean as far as junk and the ground was more like compost and very easy to dig. Pulled a few more Wheats from some pretty amazing depths down to almost 12" but they were very corroded from something in the soil. I think the depth I was getting was due to the large Halo's these pennies developed over the years. The house owner that Pete knew came down with his grand daughter and we showed her the wheat pennies I had found and then Pete was letting her try out his Etrac. I went back to sweeping a few feet away and got a good silver sound 11-47, dug down about 9" and pulled out a 44 Mercury dime. I showed Pete and the others what I had found and the girl (about 12 years old) had never seen a Mercury dime before. She thought it was way cool. Then as they were standing there I rechecked the hole and there was still something there...a 52 Rosie. The little girl then informewd her Grampa she wanted a metal detector for Christmas! Well a few feet from there I got the 57 Rosie and then a little ways away another Mercury...1942 and then a 61 Rosie. I also found 6 Wheats 1957, 1953, 1944, 1937, 1928, 1917. This was the most silver in one day since last January. Would have been nice if Pete could have scored a silver too but he was impressed with what the Etrac can do and we will be hitting this area again. By the way, when we got back to our vehicles I pulled out my finds only to discover that one of my Merc's was missing! Bummer...looked around the truck a bit to no avail. Yesterday at lunch I decided to take a long shot and go back and check my other dig spots and after about 20 minutes got a blaring 11-47 I looked down and there it was...so here are the pic's of all 5 silver dimes. The place we hunted was to the right of the big white house on the hill. Thanks for looking!
