5 inch disk and high trash

New member
ok here a question i thought of after reading backsliders 1 newer message. say i have my 5 inch disk on the detector, could i turn up the sensitivity a little higher (than say the setting golden mentioned b4 at 9 or 10) for depth and not get so much chatter because of the smaller disk on? thanx

Wow!!, redsumit, your thinking just what I'm thinking on this one. I'm wondering too, if you have more "leaway" on cranking up the manual sens on the smaller coil than if you were using the bigger ones. That's what I love about this forum. It's almost like were all in the same room together, talking about all this stuff and sharing ideas and experiences. Marc.

Sorry, redsumit, I'm not trying to give you a hard time-:|,, I just got to thinking about it, and started to wonder if you really had more "leaway" in the sensitivity settings of the smaller coil than the bigger ones. Someone help us out here!!,, I'm at a loss on this one. Marc.

Hey guys,
Read this a while back. I got a 5 inch coil for my Q a few weeks ago. Been out playing with it. For the record I seem to have the best performance at a manual setting of 15 or 16 with the 5 inch.
Beyond that I seem to get some falsing and it gets "jittery". I love the small coil? Picked up an 1885 indian penny within half hour of putting it on, and in a trash filled old fair site where I had nearly beaten the ground to death with the big coil.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Wow, that say's a lot!!!! I would think an old fair ground, might have some trash in it, so probably the 5" coil, was a good call. It coveres less ground, per swing, but the ground it covers, it separates the trash. Marc.

You are right on there Marc. I have been using the 5" Sun Ray coil. Now I have picked up more silver with it in areas that have been heavily hunted in the past.
I picked up a Buff and had 3 nails in the same hole at an old homesite. I dug a wheatie and found parts of a watch and 2 buttons in the same hole last night.
Hope this helps.
Mark
