I got my refurbished classic 5ID in yesterday from one of the supporters here...seems to be in good working order.. first good impression is tone same as my old 6000 pro ...seems a little chirpy but has a little more depth...good balance!!! i think it will do till i can get an xl pro or m6 later at a good price!
on a whim (4hr half price sale at Cabala's) i got my wife a BH landstar I was not expecting much since it cost considerably less then the 5ID..to my amazement it works abt as well as the 5ID on what little testing i have been able to do!! they don't interfere with each other which is nice...as soon as we get some honest hours on these i will post my thought and comparisons..

Does whites ever intend to produce a smaller coil for the oddball frequency of the Matrix and 5ID's ????

thanks.

The 5ID runs on the same frequency as the Prizms. There are no small coils for them. The Matrix M6 runs on the same frequency as the MXT and DFX. There are small coils for these now.

The "little chirpy" could be outside interference, unless you're referring to noise as you're sweeping it over the ground. That could indicate a slightly to somewhat negative GB, but that's easy for you to adjust the trimmer. You don't even have to open the control housing up to do it! :) Check the GB setting by holding the coil about 6" to 8" above the ground (no more than that) and trigger into the Pinpoint function. Hold the trigger and lower the coil toward the ground in a metal-free location. If it increases slightly, that's GOOD. If the threshold audio stays the same or nulls out, that's BADS and you should tweak it just a tiny bit.

You can also check it in the motion Disc mode by doing the following: Set the Disc. level at the minimum setting, with the Sensitivity as high as it goes w/o chatter. By that I mean holding the coil motionless with the coil positioned close to the ground, increase the Sensitivity all the way to maximum. It will probably be stable. If not, slowly reduce it just to the point where you gain stability.

Now, when in the Disc. mode, quickly bob the coil towards-and-away from the ground going from about 8" (no more) down to about

I did mean prism not matrix (senior hickup) i did check the ground balance it is off a little... I will adjust it once out in the field my yard has lots of fill from the copper mine here and it may be the problem.. they at one time used the removed rock and dirt from the mines for any project they could find, nearly gave it away..
thanks Monte for the in depth info .i have been copying ur classic info for reference sure would be hard to find otherwise
THANKS..

I think Mr Bill can adjust the frequency back to the 6.57 kHz of the original Classics. This way you can use tons of available coils. It wouldn't hurt to have him stick all the other mods on your 5.

I think I will look for a small loop and by that time i should know if this thing is going to be dependable while it is still in warranty...then send small loop and 5ID to Bill for freq tweak and upgrade. I notice there is no boost circuit listed for the 5ID I wonder if it can be installed if moved back to the classic freq.??? That would be great I think it would be a keeper then....I need to send Bill an e-mail see what he says abt it!!! if it is truly the same circuit as the classic should be a excellent move..I am a retired radio tech and learned a long time ago dont mess unless u have the tech info and test equipment necessary to return it to original specs.
Thanks for the input..
