5 for V and others from the nickel killer.

I dug 5 V nickels from the same hole today, also a wheatie. I also found 4 more Wheaties and a 1941 Mercury. In my excitement digging the nickels I dropped one. My hunting partner came along behind me a little later and found a nickel on the surface. I told him that was where I dug my V's. He was going to give it back but I told him to keep it, he found it again. This ATP is a nickel killer. My VDI's were 58-59.

Just had to clean the V's up a little. They are dated 1883,1884, and 2 1894's. Now I need to find out what the date is on the one my partner kept.

Had my partner check his V and it was dated 1892. When I get mine cleaned a little better I'll try to throw up some pic's.

Does the mineralization change what a coin reads on the vdi? I get nickles at a solid 51-52 in soil here.

Ive dug more nickels with the At Pro than any other machine ive ever used period. Love the dam thing. Thats another reason it hits rings so well.

That's a pretty cool pocket spill! The 1884 has good value and you should check the 1883 to see if it has the word 'cents' or not... http://www.bestcoin.com/liberty-nickels.htm

I found a 1890 V nickel yesterday, my first!

Was that spill tough to unravel? Tones jumping all over the place? I think a lot of spills and multidenom stacks get passed over as junk...

I got a good hit on a 1982 nickel yesterday and then got the exact same sound and vdi for a small washer about the size of a nickel. I can't remember the VDI exactly, but it seemed to be between 50-54? I wonder why a penny has a higher tone or signal than a nickel?

When I get a 52 anywhere in the VDI's I know its a nickel. The numbers on this pocket spill were jumping from 52 thru 59,mostly 58-59 so I knew I had a nickel but with the higher numbers I thought war nickel which repeatly hit 54-56. I think the wheatie in there skewed the numbers some. The 1883 does have the cents on the back.

I forgot to mention my GB automatically hit 80. I usually bring it down about 10 more digits but forgot to this time. I had routinly been working with a 70 instead of the 80 that usually balances in this soil. Up until this time I had been having a nickel drought and couldn't figure it out because I almost always come home with some nickels. I personally think that if you manually GB that your VDI's will be off some. My partner and I both agreed that yesterday the hunting conditions other than being on the cool side were ideal due to the moisture in the ground we were working.
