5" coils

I need to get a 5" coil to hunt in congested iron and was wondering which coil would be better the Sunray or Excelerator, maybe just pick up a used one.

I have the 5" excelerator coil and It works fine. Depth is good and separation is great. I'm sure the Sun Ray coil is good too. The small coil is worth the investment in my opinion. HH

the 5 inch sunray coil was the first coil i got after getting my explorer. really helped in learning to pinpoint. now ill carry that coil when ever hunting. great for getting between trash and places where the 8 wont get. glad i have it in my arsenal.

I had the SunRay 5" coil and used it a couple times in trashy areas. I dug 2 barber dimes at over 6" and i thought this was great for a 5" coil. They sounded loud and clear so im sure i could get a couple more inches out of it. The thing to remember is a small coil is going to get coins you cant get with bigger coils because of trash. Larger coils work great but you need trash free ground to get the full depth with them. I know people will argue with me about this but im a firm believer in stock or smaller coils.

That these little 5 inch coil go into places other worked with the bigger coils and find many nice finds. It is surprising what these coils can find in trash area or where you need good separation. I have one for my Explorer and even though I don't use it as much as some, but when i need it it is worth its weight in gold.

I use the 5" EXcelerator or 'Detecht' coil, it works great, and it goes DEEP, I've dug dimes @ 12" with a clear loud signal, it's VERY very stable and will work through very tight areas and along big metal structures. It's very lightweight, nicely built, durable and waterproof. I haven't used the Sunray X-5 but I'm sure it's just as good if not better, here are pics from my EXcelerator:
