5" coil produces in heavy iron

I went back to the site that I went to just a few posts down. There is a small 40X50 foot lot between 2 of the houses that is full of coins and iron. I went over part of it I had missed the other day with my 8" coil and pulled an 1882 IH and a few wheats. Then I moved on to other parts of the yard. I found a 1908 V-nickel, 1956 rosie dime and more wheats and mem pennies. Late in the day, I decided to put the 5" coil on my 3D and re-cover the small lot that produced the most stuff. Remember this lot has already been hit twice. Once by a Garrett 250 and by my 3D with 8" coil. It has also produced around 50 coins including 3 IHs and 2 silver dimes. I was amazed to pull 12 more coins out of there. One of them was a 1900 IH that was only 1" deep. I have owned my 5" coil for 2 months and only had it on the machine once to test it out. I REALLY didn't think that it was going to pull anything out that my 8" didn't. I understand the theory of getting between the trash but never expected much of it. I was very happily surprised. I now have to go back to some of my other sites and re-hunt the good producing areas that are iron infested. I did have to dig 3 rusty nails that it mis-IDed.

Nice going Dave. Im considering a 5" coil myself for my new machine. Its nice to hear of others experience with the 5. Keep it up.

I have been using my 5"coil in a park that is hit pretty hard by most people in town,it's almost like hunting virgin ground with the 5" coil. Love your posts Dave, keep up the good work. HH, Roger

believe it not, the 10 inch coil can work good in moderate junk too.

I've hunted a really trashy site with my 10.5" coil, and pulled some good stuff out of junk. Swing slow. I think Tom Dankowski said something about the distance of the TX coil from the RX coil will see "around" trash, or something along those lines. Also the reason why the 10.5" coil is hot on tilted coins.
