5.75" Widescan or Concentric for trashy areas?

ModernMiner

New member
I recently purchased a new Vaquero and see a lot of folks recommend a 5.75" coil for trashy areas.
I noticed that there is a WIDESCAN and a CONCENTRIC version, and also ones with long or short cables.
Which is the correct one for trashy areas?
Thanks,
MM

Hey ModernMiner, its the Concentric one that will help. I just got one from Rusty Henry of Tesoro and he was sure to tell me that the concentric coil is best for trashy areas. He actually told me he wished the machines came stock with them because there isnt that much a loss of depth. Also, I would suggest the short cable, i think the long one is if you were going to wear the control box on the hip or something. Hope this helps

I have both and they are both excellant in trashy areas, so it's really up to which one you prefer.
The widescan is somewhat heavier than the concentric coil.
The long cable is for use with the lobo super trac detector that has a removable control box that can be hipmounted.
Go with the short cable for your application.
One thing that I do like about the widescan is that if the target is near the top of the ground, the detector gives a double beep which I like.. kind of like a built in depth meter.
By the way, you made a very good choice in getting the Vaquero... very good detector and fun to use also!!
The stock coil and the small 5.75" coil are the only two coils you will need to cover just about everything you will encounter.
Good luck,
Felix

Felix,
Thank you for the info. I've been detecting an old house site where there is only a stone chimney left. I've found some nice old relics, but there is a large area where pieces of the tin roof are all over the place. I really need the 5.75" in that area.
Thanks again,
MM
