Anyone in Arizona that can solder a coil on? I was going to do it myself but freaked once it was apart. :surrender:

Hi Desert Rat,why not just go ahead and put a plug on it so you can can use some of your other coils on it also? That is what I did with my A II. It is not so difficult if you put the plug outside the box, leaving a litle extra cable to work with. I think all the info can be searched out here on the forum. I don't have the Plug #'s at hand, but all the info should be easy enough to scratch up. I used the plugs from a Tesoro extension cable that I never used and put one on about 10-12" outside the box and one on the coil from the A II. HH, Charlie

Desert Rat, do a search for Compadre Rewire and much of the info should come up. That was a couple of years ago so be sure and allow for that. HH, Charlie

Charlie, thanks for the information. But I'm still freaked out about doing it and would like someone in AZ to help me out that can solder.

Desert Rat, I understand about the soldering problem. I worked as a heavy construction/ pipe welder for 40+years, and my soldering skills fadded somewhat during that time. Lol, good solder welders are like gold and are where you find them. I got lucky and found that my Daughter in law, a retired Physics teacher, was about as good as they come. She had become an expert from teaching robotics/etc projects to her kids and she did all the soldering on my A II. Snoop around and maybe you can find a similar type teacher/person or whatever right nearby that would be interested in your project and a few extra bucks. Maybe you could even get them interested in metal detecting. HH, Charlie

Charlie, thanks for the link and encouragement. I took a shot of whiskey, gathered my nerves and went at it. 40 min later I had rewired the Amigo with a 5.75" coil. Best of all it works. Now I'll always have detector close by when I see a tot lot.
