5.75 DD vs Concentric

I've been wondering the same thing so I checked all the forums and google. From what I've gleaned, they are equal on depth and both coils are highly praised. The DD seems to have a slight edge on coverage with the concentric being quicker to pinpoint accurately. Posted comments state that both coils have excellent separation. The DD might be better on mineralized though that is a general view of DD coils an not a tested fact between these particular two coils.

The DD coil will not get the same depth as the concentric in light to medium mineralization with, what I would call normal hunting conditions. The benefit of the DD coil is that in very trashy sites you get better separation between targets that are close together. In these sites, more depth is not always what you are trying to achieve. What you want to get is the target that is being masked. Having said that, the DD will give you respectable depth wherever it is used but just not the most depth.
The usual disclaimer: This is my opinion, based on my experience in the area that I hunt. Etc, etc, etc.

I like the DD coil on my explorer. I live in an ares with a lot of iron on the soil. The DD would most likely serve me well but I don't want to give up any depth. I already have a 5.75 concentric.

DD's were designed for heavy mineralization. They do not discriminate as well as a concentric and most love bottlecaps. They offer more ground coverage due to the coil configuration and the shape of the signal they throw - like a narrow wedge the full length of the coil. They detect nearly as deep at either end as they do everywhere else. In mild soil they have no advantage over a concentric other than ground coverage.

that has been my experience with DD coils better ground coverage and agnore nasty ground allot better. but everything else concentric all the way, especially in trash infested places, just use smaller coil. happy hunting!!:tesoro:
