5.75 coil on the way!

Fish N Chips

Well I just broke down and ordered a 5.75 concentric coil to use on my Eldorado and Silver Umax. As many ghost towns, stage stops and trashy home sites as I am hitting now I think it was the right choice. Hopefully the concentric will discriminate in the iron well and help me get in between the junk to pick out some nice targets. I am also thinking the small coil will let me use the no motion all metal mode in these sites to better size up my targets.

I also got a lower shaft with it to make swaps easy. Thanks for all the advise and I can not wait to get my new toy, I mean tool. LOL. After reading all the results and reviews on this coil it may just end up staying on one of my machines. I may have to give it a try for prospecting as well. There are some good gold fields around me.

Now just remember to hunt slowly and methodically in iron trash. Don't over-Discriminate (I suggest only rejecting iron nails, barely), and overlap with a slow, short-length sweep (about 24"-36" from side-to-side).

Monte is telling you right. I've found that it takes persistence and practice to hunt SLOWLY enough with small coils. The natural tendency is to move right along because of less ground coverage, but that's not the way to go.

This is my favorite coil. It seems I always go back to using the smaller ones.

I got my 5.75 coil today and the extra lower rod for it. What a nice little coil. It is small, but does not seem too small. It is very lightweight compared to my 9x8 spider coil. I am very excited to field test it.

I did take it out to my test garden and ground balanced it. The ground balance seemed to take smaller knob adjustments to level out compared to my larger coil, but may have been my imagination. I have bad EMI around my house due to power lines and my 9x8 coil goes crazy at times. The smaller coil did not seem as affected until I maxed the sensitivity. I maxed out the sensitivity and it stayed pretty stable with some slight chirps and then backed it down to 7. It was hitting the coins well at 5 inches, with 5.5 inches starting to break on the zinc penny and dime. The quarter and copper penny went 6 inches. Maxed out sensitivity gave me about another half inch to inch in depth. My ground is bone dry right now due to the summer heat so I am curious to see how a little moisture in the ground will affect the depth. I need to pull some silver out and check it for depth too. Overall I was happy with the results.

The discrimination was right on with where my 9x8 coil thumbs out. I tried it on a large piece of rusty iron and it did not false like my larger coil will. Must be the smaller signal return not overloading?

I want to put it through the nail board test but it is 104 degrees right now and I played outside long enough. I think this coil will see a lot of use. It seems like a nice fun coil to use at my iron nail ridden sites and trashy areas in the park. It seems nimble and very stable on my Eldorado. I may have to see how it works on my Silver Umax too. It may be a good one for my daughter to use in the park. I am hopeful it will help me pull some good items from the trash, and if my iron test is any indication maybe it will not false in the iron as much. Time will tell, thanks for all the advise.

I got it from Kellyco with a coupon I had. The coupon got me the lower shaft for free. It will definitely make change outs quicker and I like the new lower rod better than my old one. More adjustment.

PM sent.
