I got this ring today that weighs 5.6 grams and is plainly plated and tarnished but is stamped 14k...
What gives is it fake?
Rang up on ATP and MXT Pro as a half dollar and or quarter.....
Is it silver plated gold?

Yes...Ive had alot of older rings plated and marked 10k....the silver inder the gold takes over the detector meter reading

I have a gold looking ring that is marked 18k. I am pretty sure it is brass. Light like aluminum. Reads much too high to be gold.....Jack

Congrats Mr PT , a ring is a ring in my book, but the gold rings I have found with the A T Pro came in

the 54 to 58 range with a very mellow tone, I no longer dig the raspy tone pull tabs but those deep

pop cans still fool me sometimes. Keep on digging mate and the solid gold wll come.

H H Les.

If you don't have a gold tester, examine it closely with a high powered jewelers loupe. True gold will have a very slick look to it and plate will have a bumpy uneven look. . Does the ring have any other characters after the 14K??

Oh I will take it into The jewlers when I het a couple more to sell.
Last time I sold off I thought I had 3 golds and turned out one was just pot metal.
