5.5 and 5 coils?

I'm thinking the OOR coil or 5.3x4.75 or close to that was the original small coil. Now they made a newer small coil that is close to 5.5" and perfectly round.

I haven't even seen the difference in the 2 coils yet, I have just been using the small OOR one that came in my Red Racer pro pack with great success on the R2. I'm very happy with that coil in nails. The ones Detector electronics have in stock are still those OOR's I believe..........

There are two different small coils for the Racers? Why would they do that?
I am sure they felt they had a good reason for the search coil change, possibly because the 5½" diameter DD coil is handier ro make and a more versatile size for their different models, to include the Gold Racer and Nokta FORS Gold + and Relic units.

The former smaller coil, which measures 4.7" X5.2 " is just slightly 'Out-Of-Round', as was Tesoro's 8X9 that replaced their round 8", and I have used the term 'OOR' for that slightly not-round size since early 2001. 'OOR' was a very good description that seemed to fit the smaller coil on the Nokta FORS CoRe and Makro Racer, and it apparently caught on. Then I started working with the round 5½" (that's a closer measurement than the 5" they call it) on the FORS Gold + last December and it appealed to me as well.

Of the two, there is very, very little difference in performance, although some folks might perceive a slight edge, for one coil or the other, and it gets down to a matter of 'mental comfort' in preference between them I have the 5½" on my Gold Racer and FORS Relic, but even though I have my 5½" on a lower rod for the Racer 2, I also have my 'OOR' coil for the Racer 2 and often leave it mounted. I just happen to like it.

In the case of the Racer 2, you get to take your pick between the two slightly different sizes/shapes of smaller-size coils.

I said this in an earlier post last month when I received the R2. To me, the whole idea behind having a small coil is just that, It's small! it affords better target separation, lighter weight, and it will get into areas that larger coils can't. Really wondering why they made the small coil larger? I liked the OOR so well that I bought a spare about a month after buying the original Racer so now I have two OOR coils and a 5.5" round (that doesn't get used).

Tom sell me your 5.5 coil then ;) I don't have any small coil yet

Sorry, gotta keep it so some day in the farrrrrrrr away future when I sell my Racer 2 the Pro pack will be complete.
