I still haven't got to try the V3 at my "A" sites due to time constraints. Today was no different. I really didn't have time, but I just got my new 5.3 inch Eclipse coil (courtesy of White's ) so I had to get out to try it for a little while.
I hit my favorite "B" site because it is close by and has produced some good silver finds and some buttons.
When I arrived, I got out of the car and walked about 30 feet into the woods to find a clean spot to ground balance and get a good probe reading. After completing the balance sequence, I swept the coil one time and got a nice high pitch tone and "80" showed up on the screen. "Falsing", I told myself. "Better lower the RX". But it was repeating, solid on the 80 at 6 1/4 inches, and had a nice hump in the analyze screen. I knew I was going to dig a silver dime (clad comes in at 76-7), it was just a matter of what type and year. The 5.3 is an absolute pleasure to pinpoint with compared to the D2 coil. I dug a nice small plug, and right in the middle was the 1942 Mercury dime. I was surprised with the depth this coil attained with no problem! This dime gave a good strong signal. I am sure it would have detected it 3 inches deeper! I think this may be my new default coil!
I must say, the V3 is a silver hound! On all three of my "mini-outings" it has detected silver. Two Mercs, and a small silver button!
