5 3/4" Widescan

Anybody use the 5 3/4" Widescan on their Vaquero while hunting the woods? If so what are your thoughts?

Thanks
Denis

nice question, I was going to ask the same, let's wait for the opinions

I haven't used a wide scan, but my 5.75 concentric works good in thick brush. It gets good depth and can into those really tight places where larger coils can't go.

ditto. small and solid coils like the 5.75 of the compadre can be a great advantage, with the vaquero must be sweet

The only 2 aspects that make me think about the widescan are: my bad soils and the wider spectrum instead of the cone shape of the concentrics, that can make the difference near trees. Happened to me once, almost missing a small buckle and a buttom near a tree

I have the 5.75DD coil. It is a very deep coil for a DD. You don't need mineralized ground for it to shine. It can get between trash targets pretty good. I don't use the 5.75 very often since I got the 10x5DD. 10x5DD has less depth but better coverage...great for trashy sports fields.

One thing about DD, they false more than concentric but I have found the occasional earring or coin that I may have missed otherwise. My preference is DD coils because of the coverage at depth.

nice to hear about the 5.75 and the 10x5. I prefer concentrics, but DDs can save some pain :)

I have both of the small coils for my Vaquero and like them both.
I have only used the widescan a few times and last weekend I used it around an old house site in the woods.
I did notice that it doesn't seem to discriminate as well as the concentric coil and it falses on some iron easier than the concentric coil does.
It is slightly heavier than the concentric too although not much.
I do like how it double beeps when using around school yard and tot lots to indicate shallow targets.. sort of like a built in
depth gauge.
I took it to a salt water beach last year in hopes that it would work in the wet sand, but I could not get it to ground balance.
I figured since it was a DD coil and small to boot, this would allow use of the Vaquero on the beach, but that didn't make any difference.. dry sand it works fine, but noticed that I had to keep adjusting the ground balance often to compensate for the variation in black sand.
Overall I do like the coil so far and plan on keeping it as it does offer a little larger footprint than the concentric coil.
