4x6DD OR 5.3

IMHO - yes
BB

I have never used the 5.3 but I can tell you that the 4x6 is a very good coil. I did a lot the other day & first hit it with the 6x10 & found a few wheats, then I put the 4x6 on & found 6 more coins. You can't go wrong with it.

but it is really more a personal opinion we all need to make. I don't buy into all the talk about how all DD coils are so superior to ALL concentric designs in 'mineralized ground" because I usually hunt in nasty bad dirt. When the MXT's Ground Phase read-out is usually in the '78' to '84' range, and sometimes in the '85' to '87' range, you aren't messing with mellow stuff.

I've owned them both. the Shooter coil is the first small coil I got with my first MXT and it worked okay. A much better coil for trashy sites than the stock 950, and I do well compared with the Shooter coil. I found it handy in many locations that I frequent, such as densely trash ghost towns or old picnic groves.

But, I wanted better discrimination and better detection depth. I found, after I switched to the 5.3 Eclipse coil. This is A 6

I also own the 9.5, the12", and the10dd, but use the 5.3 the majority of the time.
I think they're fairly close when it comes to target separation, but the 4x6, imho, tends to give quite a bit more
false positives over some of the rusty trash than the 5.3. It gets old quick when your in a spot with rusted bottle caps.

Also, most of the trashy sites I detect have "pockets" of dense trash, but are surrounded by area containing only
moderate trash... For that I would absolutely recommend the 5.3 over the 4x6.

I've never detected in gold country, so I can't help you there.
I just know that if I had to choose between the two, I'd take the 5.3 without hesitation.
Hope this helps:)

The 4x6 for sure if you hunt gold country. I have both and have used the 4x6 for both gold country and trashy areas. I like the 5.3 and use it for trashy parks, I think the 5.3 gets a little better depth but the are very close, for the mineralized soil in gold country you can run the 4x6 in + 1,2 or 3 with stability to find very small gold.

I wouldn't be without my 5.3" coil. Enough said. HH, Nancy

I haven't used a 5.3" yet.

But, I have used the 4x6 on the V3i, in a very high trash area.
It picks through the trash very well and locks on the good targets.
The last time at this paticular park, I found a pocket spill including 3 Mercs & '53 Washington quarter.

I expect similar performance on the MXT.

The natural ground here reads in the high 60s-low70s.
