4x6 Shooter Coil Problem ??????

I just picked up a Shooter Coil for my MXT Pro and tested it out. It sounds off overload anytime I crank the sensitivity to +1 or more. Checked connections, ground balance etc. no change. With my 5.3 and 950 I can adjust to +1,2 or 3 with no problem in the same spot. Is this normal for the Shooter coil to do this? I had a older MXT before and donot remember this problem with the Shooter on it. Thanks Joe

I had the same problem with my 91/2 coil. The coil was going bad. I now use only my 5.3 coil. It is a winner! Whites does not repair coils, they just told me to get a new one. Does anybody know a coil repair shop?

No that is not normal for a Shooter coil. Give your local dealer or White

Well i was out today and tried my 4x6 coil and it did the same. I think the little coil is not a depth monster and made to find more shallow targets. mine didn't show overload when I cranked the sens, but it did overload on any shallow target rather it be a coin or junk. I think ya need to run it at the sens preset setting or less. I guess thats another reason I use the 5,3 eclipse coil 90% of the time, I can do much better in trashy areas with it and if needed I can crank the sens with the 5.3 and the machine remains stable.

I owned an MXT for several years and ran a 4x6 shooter coil at times.....never had any issues with the type of problems described here, cranking the gain shouldn't be an issue, sounds like a coil issue to me........

I would send the MXT and all your coils in to White's to have them checked out. On my XLT White's replaced my 5.3 and 950 coils for $18 and $25 (respectively). This was post warranty.

White's has the best service of any manufacturer.

ArizFlash, I have always wondered what they would charge for bad coils post-warranty. Thanks for the info! I guess it is WELL worth picking up a bad coil and sending it in to Whites for these costs. I heard that they are very good at keeping customers happy. One person even said they sent a detector in with NO coil and it came back with a new coil on it. I have no idea if that is normal or a random mistake but everyone that deals with them leaves with a good experience.

I sent both my XLT and IDX in for repairs this past spring. Before sending them in I called White's and they advised sending all my coils in as well. All of the coils required replacement. The null setting was off on all of them due to being stored in a hot garage when I was in Phoenix. So in all I got 3 new coils for my IDX/XLT for less than $60 plus the repair charges on the detectors.
