4x6 inche coil

I have a site that is infested with nails and bought a 4x6 coil for my v3i thinking I could find more good finds. Yes it is v rated. I put a dime beside a 10 penny nail in the stock coin and jewelry mode. It will not ID the dime right even perpendicular, it come up with a reading of +13 to +41 and thinks its iron any other angle. Take the nail away and it ID's just fine. My question is has anyone tried doing a test like this before going out in the field.

I have tried this test on the V3i with the 4x6 coil and got the same results. The dime and nails mixed will screw the id #'s and I find the results are on all machines I have used. Best to dig all non iron signals . They at times are the best finds in the iron trash. I found my 3 cent nickel doing just that. GS

Thanks, that is what I thought too. I do have three detectors that will ID it correctly perpendicular to the nail but not down the barrel or parallel to the nail

I have an iron infested 1700's log home i hunt regularly. Your going to have to dig every little blip that gives a low vdi reading that you might think could be a good target chances are there something mixed in with the iron. Good luck and keep your patience..
