Well boys I am just coming back into the hobby and have been out of it since 1974. I am in a pretty high area of American Civil War and American War for Independence. I found a 400 dl max local for about 100 dollars. Is this a good deal to start out with? Can it be upgraded and such. I dont have a bunch of money to spend here and this fits into my budget. HELP!

Do you mean the 4900 DL/Max? It is an over looked machine that has the same detector engine as the 5900 and 6000 di sl but less the meter.
On mineralized salt beaches and dig all applications, makes a good heavy mineralized prospector unit,it is lighter and more ergonomic and the battery lasts than it's bigger brothers. They are all some of the deepest VLF machine out there and among the few out there with a TR mode for ore testing.
It has the same box as the Whites TDI,coincidently and compliments it nicely.
