It was Aug. 3 when hurricane Celia went over the top of my home town. she left this area of Texas totally in ruins. I was 13 when it came though here, we had no water or elec. for 6 weeks. For use that went though Celia I think we all will remember the smell, of dead animals, sea weed, and ice was a great treat. Hope I never go though it again.

what those storms are unless you have been in one. I was in NC in 58 or 59, I forget which, when a Hurricane came through. We only got the edge of it but that was enough. I was stationed at Cherry Point at the time and I thought it was fun. I had nothing to lose except my life and that was no possible to someone so young and I had a ball in it.

One thing that I do remember though for some reason. After the storm passed all the cars looked like they had been polished, at least to me it did. That wind and rain did a better job than any car wash could.

I also enjoyed walking the beach at Morehead City. There were some mighty interesting critters and such blown up on the beach

swimming in that area. I always thought that area around Havelock, all the way to Morehead City to the east to New Bern to the west was fun to explore. I use to enjoy driving on some of the logging roads in the area too! There were also many places to fish in that area. I always enjoyed the nine months that I spent in that area, but that was a long time ago. Kelley (Texas) :)

40 years later and can still see empty slabs were house and building use to be. Remember those big Exxon signs with the 2 steel pipes going up about 50 feet, I saw those laying bent over on the ground, 2"x4" stuck in a telephone poll. We had a mess of tornado's too with the Storm. 3 of the people that died from the strom was about 1/4 mile from my house, I knew them well. Hope I never go though another one in my life. Maybe someone will buy my house and I can move inland.
