4 x 6 or 5.3 Coil Help

Good Evening , If a guy could only afford 1 small coil for his MXT at this time; should I get the 4x6 or the 5.3 . I already have the 6 x10 & the stock 9.5 Thanx

I would go with the 4 X 6 Eclipse or the 4.5 X 7 EXcelerator, I like them better they give you the small size, works well in trashy areas but also has a little bit bigger foot print then the 5.3 Eclipse. And from what I have seen the 4.5 X 7 EXcelerator does go deeper. That is just my opinion, and some would probably disagree with that. They are all good coils for trashy tight areas.

I use the 4.5x7 Excelerator and I've made some great finds with it in heavy trash. Last monday I pulled a 1911 D Barber dime around 6" with it.

I own and use the 4X6 and use it more than my other coils since I detect pretty trashy areas. I have found coins as far as 7 inches true depth. The coils depth reading is off about 2 inches deeper than the true depth . That means the readings average 2 inches more on the depth reading than they are. I love this coil and have found some good foreign coins as well as American coins. I use the relic mode with the trigger forward and the Disc on about three.

4x6 DD for mineralized soil and the 5.3 for mild soil.. In my soil the 5.3 blows the 4x6 out of the water in depth.. So much so I sold the 4x6...

I have both. If you need a coil for very heavy trash, the 4X6 or 4.5 X 7 is the way to go. For not quite so heavy trash, better coverage and enough better depth that you can use if for a general use coil, the 5.3 has the edge in my opinion. Like you, I also have the 6X10 and have that on my machine 80% of the time. I find that every now and then I hit a place where one coil will really outshine the others and then I'm glad I've kept them all. My two bits.

Unless hunting in extreme trash the 5.3 is my pick. The 4x6 coil is only called for in those areas that are otherwise almost totally unhuntable due to the amount of signals being literally one on top of the next. In that case it can be a rewarding coil to use with the proper settings and lots of patience.

I'd say Jackpine Savage says it quite well. When I first tried my MXT, I was hunting a very trashy park with the 9.5 stock coil and it was trying to handle so many targets that the detector was nearly unusable and I was quite disappointed. I had the 4X6 with me at the time, switched over, and the difference was like night and day I was able to slip thru the trash, the separation was great and I was able to pick up a fair number of goodies. In not quite such heavy trash, the 5.3 will give better depth and more coverage and is a pretty good general choice for most hunting although I've found the 6X10 DD sneaks thru the trash noticeably better than the 9.5 stock coil.

I think I would be choosing between a 6" excelerator and a 5.3 concentric instead of choosing between a 4x6 and 5.3 if depth matters. One thing some people don't take into consideration is oval coils get the depth of their small dimension. A 6x10 gets about the same as a 6" coil, not a 10" coil. That's why my 10" excelerator out does my 6x10. A 4x6 gets closer to a 4" coil depth instead of a 6" coil.

The 5.3 is actually closer to a 6" coil in size. A 5.3 and 6" excelerator would be a closer match and if you went with a 6"DD coil you wouldn't give up the depth as with the 4x6. Rob

I had both coils and used them in trashy areas with high iron content. I was pleased enough with the finds when using the 5.3 that I sold the 4x6.
