4 month anniversary hunt best yet!

Its been 4 months since I started this hobby with my Tesoro Outlaw (give or take a day or two). I went out and hit the places in my town where Ive been having the best luck. It went better than I could have hoped. I know this haul isnt a great day for some of you out there but I was pretty jazzed. It was my first multiple silver hunt and I also pocketed my second I.H. penny that is my oldest U.S. coin yet.

The take:

1 Curtis Cigar token
9 wheat pennies (1919, 1926s,1934, 1936, 1937s, 1941s, 1942s, and 2X 1944s)
1 1903 indian Head penny
3 silver dimes (1928 or 9, 1942D, 1952D)
a policeman toy of some sort
a gear
a buckle?
a Flash Gordon ring
a brass/copper? military button
an old srew-on earring
a blob of copper

All found with the Outlaw-- 8 inch coil, sens at max or close to it, thresh at 1 o'clock, Disc right below Zn.

Thanks for checking these out. Hope everyone finds some time to hunt this weekend, I know I'll be back at it!

I guess I should also mention that none of these finds were deeper than 4-5 inches.

HAY MO,,, The more you use that detector the more you will learn. You will keep going back to them old spots and find more oldies... Have fun.... KEN

Way to go!

Finding that many good finds in one day would make several good days for me and then some. I'd be on cloud nine.

That's just a really good day for anyone in this hobby, old or new. Looks like you've found a great site and have the skills to seal the deal!

Thanks all, it was a great day. Its not so much the finds (though they we're awesome), as it is finally starting to TRUELY understand what my detector has been trying to tell me for so long. I dug very little trash today. And its really fun to be able to share with folks who appreciate the nuances of this hobby.

Kaolinwasher-- I've commited myself to hunting with Disc just below zinc (along with the rest of my posted settings) and Sens maxed at the expense of threshold ( but never have to go less than 12 o'clock on thesh) in all situations with the Outlaw in my mild soil. If the target is solid iron (like that iron policeman thingamabob in the pic) it is still hitting pretty hard and deep (10-14 inches depending on thresh) at those settings, so you can still find interesting iron/lead relics like houseware, buttons, ammunition, toys, and such; but skip a lot of iron scrap and junk along with the bulk of the pulltabs and foil. The bottlecaps and beavertails still sound off like a champ, but that makes me think a decent sized gold ring will too. And, of course, coins of all sizes, sound distinctive at depths up to 8 inches in my experience. Ive found nice places to hunt that are not very trashy other than the ubiqutous rusty nails. In more experienced hands, I've heard the Outlaw is great in iron infested areas too. Im not there yet, as Im still digging a load of nails.

Turn up the discrimination just high enough to make the problem nails crackle and pop and then dig all clean sounding signals. Doing this will cut down on the amount of rusty nails you have to dig and still allow you to find silver coins next to them. The Outlaw is one the best detectors that I've ever used in iron infested areas.

Thanks Tabman, I'll give that a shot and see how things go.
