4 inch coil?

Merf

New member
Ordered one for my pioneer 505----
I am hoping it will be good for hunting iron infested field farmstead sites.
How deep will it find a half dime? TIA Merf

I have the same coil for the Pioneer 202 and it will help a bunch in the trash! How deep on a half dime I have no idea as I've not found one with that detector & coil combination. But if you have a half dime you could do a comparo of the standard coil to the hockey puck coil when you get it.

I've had one of those coils also but can't answer your question as I never found a HD with it either. What a lot of folks don't consider or aren't aware of is just how relatively inexpensive a "generic date" low grade half dime costs at a coin shop. If you'd get one, you could experiment with it in your specific ground and with that, you'd have your answer and in more legitimate way than anyone else could provide.

Hi Merf. The 4" will be great in iron trash for cherry picking coins
but search more slowly than normally in any trash site. From
my experience in mild soil, the 4" should glean a half dime at
about 5".
Good Luck!

Thanks Wayne, Brad , and Bill.
5" on a half dime would be fantastic. Even 4" would be good.
I did my first hunt with the 505 and 10 inch coil yesterday.
I think this machine is under rated by many. I dug a Mercury dime at 8 inches in a kind of trashy wooded area.
Looking forward to hunting in the nails with the 4" coil. Merf
