4 hunts, 1 unusual relic

I

That is a very interesting piece, could it possibly be a wine stopper?
It is a French "Fleur Di Lies" but I also see a key hole symbol.
What is the writing on the top?

Here is a close up of the threaded stopper I found. Does anyone recognize this hallmark? I also has patent dates of '06 and '08.

He PM'd me this: I GOOGLED "A Schrader's Son, INC." and found that they are indeed a New York corporation, who manufactures in Brooklyn, under letters patent, valves, gauges and other accessories for use in connection with automobile tires. WOW, I got to thinking and remembered I had an old Schrader's tire gauge. Here are some pics of it. Still can't seem to nail down the stopper.

I'm with you on the Fleur-di-lis, it's most definitely a stopper of some kind.
Great find !

Cool tire gauge also.

I recognized something about it -I was on my out the door and ran
back upstairs to the computer. My GrGranmother had an ice box and
my grandfather pulled all the hardware off in the 50's. I believe that
it has similar markings. Can you take a look at some and see what you think??

Hi awhitster,

Just a little input into your finds and comments from Australia.:ausflag:

Your "stopper" appears to me to be very similar to stoppers which were used in Hot Water Bottles of years gone by. I remember these hot water bottles being filled with boiling water, wrapped in a towel or even had a knitted cover, and placed in in the bed so the bed was nice and warm when the person got into it:blush:. The stopper had a rubber washer to ensure a proper seal. I cant say that I have ever seen the Fluer de lis emblem on one before though.

There are still some of the "Schrader's tire gauges" in existence, in fact I'm sure I have one in amongst my tools in the shed somewhere that I have had for many years, and I know I have a similar gauge (Possibly not a Schrader) that is in the glove box of my 4WD. The numbers denote the PSI (Lbs per square inch) pressure in the tyre on inner tube.

Hope I've added some ideas.

Regards Barry.:ausflag:

Thanks to some help from Limpy, Diggin'4 Silver and Blockade Runner we finally figured out that this stopper is for a vintage water bottle. Picture one is the one I found metal detecting. The rest are pictures of one on Ebay.
