4.5 crossfire II coil depth

cosmic

Just curious what kind of depth you get with it? I've been playing with it all morning and hardly get more than about 4" in depth.. Running a 1350 in all metal mode.. Tried adjusting the sensitivity from about 7- max... Did some air tests (I know, not the same)at 9.5 sens. it hits at 6" barely and 5 3/4" for a solid hit and money bell tone.. Any higher does not make a difference..(maybe to smaller targets) Just wondering what everyone gets..

i get about six inches here with the original crossfire sniper coil on my gta 1000 and freedom 11 plus but the soil is good here.

In my experience, the small coil isnt a depth monster - after all, depth is proportional to coil size. Case in point: Ever notice how the new breed of "deeper" detectors are adorned with ever enlarging coil dimensions? But, 6" isnt bad. Think how many targets you regularly recover at depths greater than 6". Take 6" ruler with you next time you go detecting and see just what 6" really equates to...

Besides, where these little coils shine is in trashy areas and around metal structures, like poles and such. There is one place I occasionally hunt that absolutely requires a sniper because of the tabs and foil. I cant clear off the masking trash, since it's a highly visible, public place. All that digging would surely get me banned.

So, think of your coils as a multi-pronged offense. The little coils are just one of the many tools available to the tactical minded detectorist.

The 6" was a air test.. Most depth I had in the Field was at about 4 1/2".. I do measure the depths as my digger and pinpointer I have marked in inches.. 99% of the older coins are from 5-9" in the area I hunt.. Did find a 23 wheatie at 3" but thats about it.. All the rest of the older coins were averaging between 5" and deeper.. I'll just use it for clad and newly lost targets.. Playground and park that are trashed..
Thanks,
Ray

Typically for a copper penny, the depth is equal to the coil diameter, depending on conditions.

4.5" sniper coil = 4.5 Avg. depth

8" Stock coil+ 8" depth

12" Deepseeker = 12" depth

this seems to be about average

The 4.5 Sniper is an exception to the rule. I get 6-7 inches in bark chips with it and there are a few guys on the forum that get that depth with it.. I know the rule of thumb has always been diameter equals depth but this little bugger defies convention.
