4.5 Crossfire coil for Ace 250?

A

I just purchased a 4.5" Crossfire Sniper coil on eBay. The ad says it fits the Ace 250. The ad lets you choose between two connectors. Connector "A" matches the connector on the Ace 250. The price is definitely right - $50 and change gets it shipped insured to your door.
I'll give everyone a review of it after I've tested it. If it works as advertized, it'll be available immediately and undoubtedly cheaper than the Ace Sniper coil.
Wish me luck!

Hi! Phil in NM,
I think you will find that the coil you purchased was designed for the GTAx/CX/Earlier Treasure Ace series detectors. If it has the correct plug on it, it will fit the T/Ace 150/250. It will detect OK on the T/Ace 150/250, but some targets will give different ID readings to the original coil and also the depth readings will not be correct.
I have already done tests on the coils available for the GTAx series detectors. The only one that appeared to read the same as the original coil, was the 8.5" XFire coil.
Hope this helps out.
Phil

Phil,
Thanks a lot for the info. I thought it sounded too good to be true, but being the eternal cheapskate, I thought I might be able to have something as good as the Ace 250 Sniper Coil for half what I'd be paying when it actually comes out.
You think I ought to try it out when I get it or just ship it back immediately? I've dealt with this guy before. I don't THINK it will be a problem returning it if I cite your reasoning to him.
Thanks again,

Phil,
I know you want the small coil (Sniper) at an economical price, but the Garrett Home page lists them at $74.95. (even though not available as yet) I know that isn't $50.00, like you paid for the Crossfire. After they hit the street, and you look around, I would think you could do a tad better. That is what I am going to do.
Cheer up, if you can get your money back before you use the Crossfire, all you are out is shipping.

I used my 4.5" Sniper from my 1250 on my 250. Seemed to work just fine. There were some posts on here that said the 2 detectors used a slightly different operating frequency, but not being an electronics wiz, they might as well have been talking Greek. I used it for about 8 hrs. and it ran flawlessly. Only thing is, it isn't black.

Hi! Big John,
The XFire 4.5" for the GTAx seties detectors will work on the 150/250, but incorrect depth readings are given and also some target ID's are different.
Have tested with numerous coils available.
Phil
