3rd year in a row for detectorist of year in our club

Hello All. We had our annual general meeting last Thursday for our metal detecting club for 2005.Points for the coins and relics section was, myself 1st place with 34 points. .Points for 2nd place was 27 .Points for 3rd place was 9.it was a tough battle as a new member that joined the club late last year was trying hard to peg me back this year so I had to work smart not hard and research my spots this year to keep in front. I am sure that the patriot meter has helped my detecting during the year as it is a lot quicker to id the target and move on to the next signal and the extra time gained can make a difference in the amount of good targets found at the end of the day. When I joined the club just over 3 years or so and won my first year trophy I set out to try and win a second year after the 2nd win I decided to try and make it 3 years in a row. The 1st year win was when the club decided to start a perpetual trophy for the club to hold on to and place a shield with the winners name for that year. Winner for that year received a small trophy to keep. Steve Cummins won the gold section of the club. The club is gold oriented about 90 percent. I will post some photos of the trophy. I will post a report in the next few days about my last couple of outings before the last club meeting on Thursday. (17/11/2005).the club has decided that they are going to split up the coins and relics into three sections, being coins, jewellery, and relics. What I have found that you have to put in the hours to collect the numbers. We have good weather all year round and on the beaches I leave home around three thirty AM and get home about eight thirty o clock PM. The main beaches have very good lighting and there is no problem in detecting all night. At the parks and the hospital I cut back a little depending on the day light hours. There is about one hour driving each way before you detect. All the best Stan V.

Stan....was reading your message on Msn regarding the Sov GT and the depth problem. I have the Sov GT and have no problems getting up to 15" on the Aussie $2 coin.....I use the 15" WOT and have the Sens at around the 10 or 11 o'clock position. The beach sands over here in Perth are generally low in mineralisation (nice and white)...I also find the DISC is as deep as All Metal.

I've compared against other older Sov's and it is more sensitive to gold and generally deeper across all targets...

Regards,
Tony.

Hello Tony. Thanks for your reply. I also use the wot coil from coiltek. I have used this coil for quite some time on my XS sov with very good results. I would highly recommend this coil to any one. It goes deep and covers a lot of ground especially the beach. As soon as I started using the GT I felt that there was something wrong. I coulde not wind up the sov signal as in the wiggle to a higher pitch. The sound was flat and not as sharp and pronoused in both the discriminate and the pinpoint section like my sovXS which would blow the panel off the front (as you would say ) The same applied in the all metal mode in both fixed and track all though the gold signal was very different like a gold unit when I was finding shallow coins. The reason I got the GT was to try and gain a little more depth all round. As I said when I found a good target the signal was flat and not as sharp compared to the XS also the depth wasn

Job well done....as far as clubs, nice to meet a hunting buddy, enjoy the mingling with fellow detectorists and their activities..One I belonged to also had a great library which was another plus...
As far a depth( do remember a unit could be faulty) and a call to Minelab or a trip to get calibrated might be in order...
