3rd Time Out With The Silver Sabre uMax

Yesterday morning I went to a very popular beach. I saw two other guys from the same club as me in which one of them was doing the water and the other was doing the sand. The one in the water only found $1.80 and the one in the sand found $2.00. So I decided to go and do the grass in a small area. The first find was in about 3"(very first jewellery for my first Tesoro) was this silver necklace( my heart was racing and I was thinking that was quick!). I detected for 2hrs and just loved my Tesoro especially because it's so light weight.

Most of the time I had the disc. at 3 and sens at 9. What do you guys suggest that is good for a beginner like me???

Another question I have is I have a scuff cover for the 8" donut coil, but the scuff doesn't want to stay on any idea's???

Thx.

Good finds. You just can not beat them TESOROS... Scuff cover?? try double sided tape.. Do not use glue. .I have used wire ties too. Run your disc on I on iron. You might find gold chains and gold rings.. Dig all that junk. You will find a lot of goodies.... Good luck.. KEN

With a find like that you need to be giving out suggestions.:)

Ken Ward is right, run minimum discrimination for those small gold chains. I wonder how long it would take to wear through a coil using it in sand without a cover?

Maybe try some hairspray around the edges of the scuffguard we used to use it on our bike grips as kids gets tacky when it dries then you can clean it up in warm water if needed. I havent tried it on my scuffs but should work the same. I simply put a few tiny pieces of cardboard between the sides of scuff and coil to tighten up the connection. I also feel "I" in Iron is the perfect setting but IDK if you have numbers or words on that particular machine. I run my Lobo on about 2.5 in the numbers if that helps. :)

For those that don't know, the SSumax does NOT have an I for iron. Knob is calibrated in numbers. What I often do is throw a nickel on the ground, pass the coil over it while adjusting the disc. When the nickle crackles out, I turn it back until the nickle just gives a reliable signal, This is usually around 4 to 5, then hunt.

Addition to above - this is a pretty good way to set the disc regardless of the markings on the face of the detector because not all knobs may be adjusted exactly the same. Gives an actual in the field result.

This is why I stated I run about 2 1/2 to 3 on discrimination...I will try your nickel theory out of curiosity, but I fear missing some jewelry, I have been quite lucky with 8 gold rings in the past month with my 2 1/2 setting but do dig alot.

Also helpful to know where a nickle crackles out regardless if you thumb the disc knob to help identify the target.
