3rd Hand

This is probably a really lame question, BUT if you're in 3-feet of water and get a signal, what do you do with the Excal while you're using your scoop?

You can get a tether cord if you want one but there is really no need for 2 hands on a scoop ,1 foot 1 hand takes a little practice .Jim:detecting:

I can tell you've never water hunted, it's not that hard, takes a little practice but I hunt waist to chin deep and use only one hand for my scoop and one for my excal....try it, you'll see it's not that hard, unless the waves are rough....HH

I lean on my detector a little and once the scoop is set you can pretty well do everything one handed. Rarely do i let go of my detector or need two hands on the scoop out there no matter how deep it is. I gotten it down so well i use the same method on the wet/dry sand.

When I'm water hunting with my GT I have the control box in the Minelab bag around my neck and under my left arm, so it stays on my upper left chest area and out of my way. Anyway, when I get a signal I wiggle the coil forward until I just lose the signal. Then I stick my big toe against the back of the coil. I then guide my scoop along side my foot at an angle pointing at my big toe. I use both hands with the scoop because the shaft is attached to my arm via the arm cup and it's velcro strap to hold it there.

Forgot. I also like to put the coil to my left and in front of me when scooping. It acts as a stability thing. If I start to lose my balance I've got the sand scoop to my right that I'm scooping the hole at that moment with, and to my left I've got the coil and shaft touching the ground in front of me for stability if I need it too. Something about staring at water while it surges up and down and such sometimes makes me a tad bit dizzy, so just in case I've got those two things going on for stability if I need it. A few times I was able to catch myself with one of them because of that.
