this coin is from the UK amazing how coins travel. i live in NW Ohio. its the size of a half dollar:surprised: and its beautiful!!!:clapping: im assuming someone lost it coming back from WW2:thumbup: but big silver gotta love it...it was a very iffy signal:look:but glad i dug it!:wiggle: about 6 inches down. heres my finds for thursday and this morning. the wheats are 1951 and 1953. decent few hours of hunting to say the least. was too hot to where headphones though.

Nice finds. Nice big silver in grat shape!

Sweet --- always fun to find soemthing different..............Jim

Nice job Weston. I thought you sold your 70? Ive got the 50 and have a 70 coming soon. hope to get that 3 khz coil later on too.

I don't understand an iff ID. A silver coin that size should have given you a solid 42. Especially with the 3kHz coil.
Very nice recovery. TomB

Nice coin guy!! I dug a 1940 one last year. If I remember it read 44-46 about 3 inces down.
They are 50% silver and nickel.

Nice chunk of silver Weston. But I agree with TomB. A target that size ought to ring out loud and clear, and provide a stable TID at only 6-inches in depth. If there weren't adjacent targets or it wasn't on edge, the only other reasons I can think of why it wouldn't lock on tight would be improper GB, NC, Threshold or Sens levels. JMHO HH Randy

Digger, on the other side there was a big rust spot i washed off. There was a big nail laying over the coin. Thats why it was iffy i believe cant think of any other reason why. BTW for everyone. i checked last night and this baby is actually slight bigger than a US half dollar!

ah Ha! Adjacent target! I knew it had to be one of those reasons I listed. Thanks for the follow-up explaining the reason for your "iffy" signal. I think it is important for some of the newbies to understand that the X-TERRA is pretty much "dead on" when the detector is set up properly, there are no adjacent targets and the coin is lying flat. In the real world, when those things do happen, anything is possible with just about any detector. Thanks again for the clarification. HH Randy

Yea, that nail being right on top would help cause an iffy signal. Especially with the amount of rust. That would spread in the soil and really confuse the signal. Congrats on the find. That find shows why we should dig everything. Because you just never know what is down there.

Congrats on the great find and may many more be in your future.

Great find! I think that coin would produce a solid signal even in my bad ground...barring any other targets near by.

Three of those and tuppence made up my wages when I first started work on a farm in the UK. That was for 60 hours a week. So it would have been a big loss to some one.
