3d question

On my 3d some nickels will fall in the bottom pullbab and some in the nickels. mostly the V nickel in the bottom pulltab. Is that normal?:ranting:

Sure is...Older nickels such a V, buffalo or shield just have a different mettalic composition...Some extremely deep jefferson nickles may ID the same way...

I've found my 3D pegs the old nickels correctly...while they are buried in their original location. What I mean is, if I dig up a V nickel, then sweep it out of the ground, it may fall in tab. However, before it was dug up, it ID'd correctly as nickel, high tone. New nickels may miss-ID while in enhanced mode, but not in salt mode. The detector was designed to hunt for the old stuff, and it has worked very well for me in that area.

but not pulltab. V-nickels usually ID as nickel (enhanced mode) in and out of the ground for me but will ID as foil in Salt mode. I did have a shield nickel that Id'ed as nickel in the ground but foil out of the ground. Only the newer nickels have ID'ed as PT for me. May just be my machine.

My old nickels do tend to go to foil instead of tabs. The new nickels go to tab (this is in enhanced mode). I stand corrected! The point I was trying to get out is that the 3D does not air test/ID old low conductors correctly (generally) unless they are in their original soil matrix....
