Had read somewhere preferred mode for modern sites was salt but can't find the article again. Anyone know why that would work better than enhanced? Also, other than the water resitance/nickel improvements, are there other differences in this machine and the cz-6?

I had mine out for the first time today in a 150 yr old park. Didn't do well. I was mostly looking for older deep stuff, disc '0', sens 4.5, gb around 6. I dug several weaker signals, kinda 3 way hits, and came up w/ something in the plugs, but when I broke them open the signal more or less disappeared. Actually, a couple of times there was something in each piece of the plug just less of a hit but still high tone. I general cut the bottom half off the plug, and if the hit is in the sod half, split it and go from there. It was so frustrating I was actually glad for a 4 way hit on a zinc cent. Thanks!

First we will assume your CZ6 is working correctly as it is 16 years old but would feel your lack of knowledge of a new machine is probably more accurate..Of course the regular mode is salt just like your CZ6 is salt with toggle to the left. Reason for being the preferred mode is most of the time we are hunting for modern coins but a flip of the toggle puts you in advance mode if you are in an older area looking for old coins. Appears you have it backwards as the CZ6 is splashproof, rain resistant while a CZ3D is not as
to make a CZ3D the same cost of about $200 from what I have read and price would have to be added to a new CZ3D making it an even more expensive unit.
Rather than trying to explain the theories relative the CZ3D and difference in meter reading in regular and advanced mode I would Google..Tom Dankowski Metal Detector and you should find an article by the innovator himself which fully explains in a lenghty article. Remember get that ground balance correct thru practice and do swing rather slow for the deep finds.Basically a CZ6 and CZ3D are about the same relative depth and stability and when I first got my original CZ6 it was months before I was confident with it in the field so one trip will not cut it as although user friendly their is a learning period..

Thanks! I'd already been to Tom's site, read all I could find and even ordered his dvd. I have a short term memory problem due to an illness awhile back. Seems like I recall reading something about using salt mode in clad likely area, may be mistaken. My cz6 is long gone, regrettably. I had a lot of time w/ it. I haven't detected for 3-4 years. I didn't make my first post very clear, I know the 6 was splash proof and the 3 isn't. The day wasn't a total loss, I got two Mercs and a SLQ, all at about 5". Also, time learning new machine.

Went back there yesterday for a shorter period of time and got another Merc and of all things an Eisenhower clad dollar. It was only an inch or two down and I only probed it as I thought it was probably trash as it set off the big target alarm tone. I was expecting to just haul a crushed can out of there.
