3D finds some silver

Took the 3D out to one of the local parks. Came up with the usual clad but I also found this 1953 silver half dollar. It was only around 4 inches deep.

hi bill!..great find!
do you remember if it was "on edge",or not?..or perhpas at an "angle" in the ground?

Franklin Halves are an infrequent find in my neck of the woods..Probably only found half a doz. in 18 years....Nice find my friend....

It was at an angle. I noticed that when I dug it. Not quite a 45 but it was on an angle.

again!..nice find bill!....finding a silver half at 4 inches these days is tough in general,UNLESS it is on edge or at an angle,OR masked by trash!..

Thanks. I dont know how it made it so long without being found. It was on a softball field near the fence line but not that close to the fence that it should have been overlooked. I am glad it was though......

that's just it bill!..it MAY have NOT been overlooked!..it MAY have given a bad signal on other detectors and was not dug!..being on edge or at an angle doesn't present much mass to the receive coil, and possibly was walked over!..the 3d obviously "threw" it to "high tone"!..gotta get me one of those!..

We get too picky as far as ID goes and then again it may have been masked and either the coin or the masking item may have moved. Recently got a 5-6 inch Barber half under similiar circumstances where many detectors had been swung over the years. In any case Nasa Tom had some good ideas with his innovative 3D which basically equates to dig more to find more and under both these circumstances sure worked as silver half dollars are a big chunk of silver to miss relatively shallow with any detector...
