350 ACE,realistic depth?

SWV Coin Hunter

New member
I picked up a new Garrett 350 a few days ago and although it is working just fine,I do have one question. I am getting a few really good hits ( not many but a few) only to find that there is nothing there. I call them Ghost signals. Had one yesterday that showed a solid hit in the quarter to dollar range and after digging a hole that was 20 inches deep ( Yes,I measured it) there was nothing there but broken glass and yet the detector still showed the same signal. So my question is. What is a max realistic working depth for a 350?

I'm hunting on a site (school) that has been used for at least 100 years and of all of the...say 15 modern coins I have found so far, there were all in the 2 to 4 inch range. I would think that on a site this old,one that I'm 90% certain no one has worked before. I would have gotten at least one deep good hit by now. Of the few deep hits I have gotten, set in coin mode with 2 bars below max sensitivity, there was noting there. Now,dont misunderstand and think that this is a common problem with my detector,it's not. It's just that either this detector is really really good at finding deep targets and I not digging deep enough to find them. Or the places I'm hunting are haunted by the ghosts of old coins past!

I am a new Ace 350 user also :) and I have had the same thing happen to me I have a Pin Pointer and have found a lot of times my pin pointing was off just a in. or two. When I stuck the pin pointer in the hole it showed the target further down, or so I thought. But in reality the object was in the side wall of the hole. I air tested my Ace and it showed about 6 to 7 in, but dug up an pencil eraser at about 8 in . hope this helps and Happy Hunting.

Good pinpointing is the key. Had the same thing happen on the AT Pro and I been doing this awhile. Bought a pinpionter and that solve the problem for the most part. Dug some deep holes just to find the target on the side. A pinpionter does same some time and digging in the wrong direction. More money more money.

Yeah it takes some getting used to.....the dd coil is ok after getting used to...I reccomend getting the sniper coil for the 350...its pretty awesome

Yeah,I'm going to have to order a pin pointer myself. Would hate to think I'm missing something!

I went out today and was getting the same thing and it turned out to be ether a eraser end or a small can shred Keep with it my 350 is frustrating me at times also.

I dug up a quarter about 6" down the other day...the pro pointer was the key. The quarter was in a mud ball and I would have probably missed it without the pro pointer. Thanks to my brother NvGroundpounder for the pro pointer!

A good hand pin pointer is a must.
I just metal deteected a soft ball field where
it was obvious someone else had already
detected. I foound myself getting signals from
covered holes. The person obviously didn't have
a pin-pointer; I found the targets he/she missed.

I found this pistol with my ace 350 at about 12 inches of damp sand.the pin point option takes alot of practice.before i got my pro pointer i would get very frustrated trying to pin point.try getting the the target centered on the coil, and pull the coil back towards you until the target strength goes away.the coin or relic will be right at the tip of the coil.this also takes some practice, but works alot better then the "x" procedure.give it a try.HH
