34 sens in the trash...humbled again.

Dropped the Sens on the F70 to 34 at pulltabby park...curious, so I swept places I THOUGHT I had cleaned out. I had missed a tight 3Q spill on the main path I KNOW I have swept at least 20 times before with a higher sens...Heres 2hrs of working stupid signals. Multidenom stacks and tight spills, flattened rusty caps etc. The low sens really tightens up the "footprint" of targets in the top 3", nails a coin right next to a tab or cap very well.... handy for unraveling tight spills. I am SURE theres a gold ring or chain in here somewhere, this park has taught me a lot about the F70 and what the settings do, it has given up over 100 bucks in clad and 2 great silver rings in the past few years that I remember. I'm getting to know this place very well, the drop zones, travel patterns, vendor booth locations, all from what is in the dirt.... also how to work a place like this effectively.

Big wide swings dont work here at all, nor does a high sens, proper coil speed is critical, too fast and it falses, too slow and it does not pick them up.....a guy has to walk very slowly, concentrate, and only use the center of the 11"dd coil, to try to isolate a target...One of these mornings I'm gonna go there and see how many pulltabs I can get in the hopes that there will be a Mens wedding band in the mix....I passed on @200 34-37 signals, but did go after strange zinc, nickle, and interesting sounding ones, I got a dime and a nickle stack that toned in at 53...everybody needs to find a place like this to practice on...I thought I had tight multidenom and masked spills figured out, but I was wrong, and the low sens setting showed that to me this am...still learning...hard hunting with all the noise, best done early and in short durations or the sensory overload wipes a guy out..

I noticed that with my T2 and F75 LTD.. 40 sens on both of those machines seemed to shine..

I should be good to go then. I've always had less sens. Some pretty good hunting there Mr Mud. What ever it takes to find loot! HH jim tn

so your saying less sense mean more cents makes sense lol yeah mud ive been dropping the sense in the trashy part of the school yards as low as 30 works good finding alot of coins that i missed before just goes to show that will still have alot to learn about this great hobby hh

Ya know Mud, it's really comical you chose to write this today of all days. I was in foil and pull tab hell also today. A spot where I hunt regularly to kinda practice sorting out the trash.
A covered picnic area at a park where you can actually see the foil on top. I only had a few minutes to spend while waiting to pick my daughter up near by. I recently noticed and even made the comment to my wife a few days earlier, that I sure don't seem to get as many nickels as others do. I got to admit I do run my F70 a little too chatty, usually sens.. at 60 and 0 threshold. I have had my eye on a spot in this park used for sleds in the winter but they were burying underground cable there until recently. So we've finally had rain here by the time I could hunt the hill a few days ago. I had this killer EMI that would make the target ID go absolutely nuts, like watching icons on a slot machine and audio like R2D2 having a meltdown . So with sensitivity at 35 and threshold at -3 I still had some chatting from the EMI and the numbers were still rolling no matter what freq. I changed to but if I hunted solely by audio, I could hear repeatable quarters in delta pitch but only for a split second. Did very well there. Anyhoo back to the picnic area yesterday, I thought I would try the lower sens. and thresh. quick just before I had to leave. Low and behold the first thing that came up? NICKEL. I believe the low sensitivity reduces the pattern size. At least that is what happened with my 10" elliptical. The trash was still there at 30 to 32 but I could see between that to find the 28 nickel wit a very slow and narrow swing like 2". If that is the case then I just saved having to buy a sniper coil:rofl: I am excited to get back there to see if it was just a coincidence. I thought this was interesting and wanted to share it with you. HH----IB

Soil plays an important role in sens.. My soil may require less sensitivity than say Jims soil In Tn. His may require more sens..
Same as in other areas...

You have to experiment in your area to see what will be optimal. If you over saturate your soil with to much sens it just distorts every signal rather than getting deeper and finding more..
Reset your ground balance every time you take away or add more sens to... That is a critical step in good performance...

Thanks for the replys fellas...Hey IBdiggin, Thats an interesting thing you noticed..:clapping:...I have never had a sniper coil, but I have also been wondering if this works sort of like one? except for the depth ? It sure seems that only a small portion of the big coil is usable when picking through lots of trash, so a person has to either have a small coil or set the big one up appropriately just to hunt the place? i went back there yesterday and came out with another 4bucks clad, I will say this, I doubt a person would have much luck in any other tones besides DP in a mess like this...everything pings high in here, several high tones per sweep..but a guys ears get good on hearing the Q's and D's after a while of doing this, and being able to tell them from the higher tone false pings...

The elliptical coil seems pretty much ideal since their search pattern is more of a cone shape. Imagine an upside down traffic cone about a foot long with a tip the size of a golf ball. It seems when power is reduced, the golf ball sized tip is also reduced in size along with the depth. I went back also yesterday and found a little something I will post later that will help prove our theory. Long live the F70. I can't believe how much we can learn from it everyday once we learn how to listen to it.----IB

Dropped sens to 32 and found still more! Theres this one lampost that had a huge pile of clad in an area the size of your kitchen...I went over there this morning and found a bunch more clad I missed...including 6 Q's...all about 2-3" deep.

Wow mud, just keeps getting better. Think maybe if we would lower sensitivity to 0 we might see treasure lying on top of the ground???????????????

Ha! Drop sens to 0 and probably find old silver!

From now on, I got a plan, I'll swing 52 until I find a lane or drop zone, clean up what I can at 52, then drop to 42 and get more, then drop to 32 and clean it right out....Instead of going back all the time.
I got some stacks, one P and a D, one D and a N...that low sens sure works in a chaterring mess

Now if we learn to tell the 20 to 22 foil seals from ladies gold rings we would have it made:thumbup:

Mud that's some good info. I'm bad about running wide open on the sensitivity. Thanks for sharing.

Your thinking is very accurate. It is so hard or down right impossible to convenience hunters to lower the sensitivity while hunting. Now your statement about a gold wedding band, well I found one about 6 years ago that read zinc penny. So don't forget a large mans band will read high.
