Two hunts again today. One at the old mansion looking for silver. Got skunked on silver and wheats but found several mid 60s clad coins and all the bullets. The majority of the coins and the toy came from the walk across the field to and from the site.
Wanted to put some coins in the bank so after supper I went to my favorite site. Somebody else had been there but it is a big place. I never hunt it heavily because I really do love going back. It is close to home and convenient for short after dinner or before work hunts. The detectorist who was there is the guy who digs big holes and leaves what he finds along side. Usually large chunks of iron. He did not seem to hit the hot coin spots at all. Of note. About 1/8th of a ring. Looks like silver but probably junk. I looked and looked for the rest. Two real nice coin spills on the bottom of pic two. First rang up as a silver dollar at 3 inches size B. My heart stopped. I dug a plug and the item was in the plug. Still registering as a silver dollar. As I turned the plug over coins began to fall out. Turned out to be 2 quarters, 2 dimes, two pennies and a 1971 French Franc. All pre 1973. The photo is wrong, one the coins from spill 2 got switched. Spill two was just a big hole full of coins. 7 quarters and 2 dimes in a hole about 8x8 and 4 inches deep. Took a while to get them all. Also a cool anchor button.
I really do prefer the second type of hunting over the first but both are fun. I realize that my arms got tired yesterday because I was out for a long time and not finding much. This meant more swinging less digging and no break for my arm. Arm feels great today and I hunted exactly the same amount of time.
I'm pretty sure I have found 1/3 of the total clad coins I found last year already in 2008. Nothing fabulous today. Should I continue to post photos of hunts like this?

Oops. There were 21 Memorial Cents not pictured. Forgot them in the strainer.
