3030 Pinpoimting

I am interested in getting the 3030 Minelab but Im scared of getting it and not undestanding it.I was wondering how hard is the pinpointing and is the useing the preset programs easy to use.I hate to put out that much money on it and slamming it on the side of a tree.I use the dfx now with the pre-set programs and only adjusting the sincitivity. Thanks

It's very simple to use. So many great posts here, and videos on you tube to fall back on. With that being said, do your homework, and practice
with it. You will not learn it over night. It might take you several weeks or months to figure all the little idiosyncrasies of this machine.
But once you do have everything figured out, you will wonder why it took you so long to invest in a treasure machine this community
has never seen.

As far as the pinpointing, just awesome comes to mind. Factory presets are great too. I think once you dive deep into the machine,
the factory presets just wont do it for you anymore, which then the Xchange 2 comes into play. Not only that to use, but you can
download many programs from users in the CTX classroom.

Don't be afraid, we here at the CTX family will guide you along with any questions or problems that you may in cour.

Hopefully that helps.

WeedHopper I was a Whites user for 7 years I used the XLT- DFX-V3i and then I got the CTX I got it the first week of June and it is my main detector now . I think the DFX is a hard detector to learn . When I got the CTX the first thing I did was put it in the coin program and I went to the schools and it the ball fields to learn the number and the sounds on the clad coins and in a weeks time i was digging old coins to . If you like detecting and like digging old coins this is the detector to have as far as the pinpointing it take me about a week of digging to get it down. And not when I pinpoint the coin is in the same spot every time . I have use all the program and they all get deep coins I am get target 8 inch + on dime and they sound like they are right on top of the ground. Like I said the CTX is my main detector now and I am glad I got it . It is a awesome detector..:twodetecting::minelab::cheers:

The Pin Pointing feature on the 3030 is a good as it gets! If you take the time and center the target you can cut your retrieval time way down. There are no more coins on the side of your hole and you digging deeper. This makes for hunting in area's that don't like to see hunters making holes. If you cut a nice small 3 sided hole the target is in the width of the tool.
Now where I have issues is when on the beach in a fast paced scoop and go atmosphere. The initial recovery is right on it's only when its out of the hole it becomes harder to find. This is due to the coil picking the target up from all around the edges. You could go ahead and re PP with the trigger and this would help recover the target quickly. I personally find it a extra step I don't want to do. The trigger is not in a nice easy to reach place when having to squeeze it 200 times a hunt. I have always been just use to running the coil over the dumped target and making the recovery. I have 265 hrs hunting the beach and have managed to make this process start to work for me. I am not alone here I hunted with a guy using a 17in coil on the beach while he dug some deeper targets he dug 1/3 less then me.(60 coins) His issues were the PP'ing out of the hole! this frightens me into not buying a larger coil! Don't read this wrong I love the machine I guess I am just needed more time with it!

Most of us has had the CTX 3030 around six months and I myself am still learning all the options available with this machine. That being said you should have no problems. It will be different from your DFX but once you find what works for you and set the CTX up you will start reaping the rewards. Yes you can turn it on and go just get one you will not be dissappointed. If you need help you will get it right here. HH :minelab:

I'm new to detecting and am just starting with the 3030 but I can say this about the pinpointing. The first time I used it I made sure I understood what the manual said about the pinpoint option and as others have said, it put me right on top of the targets and digging them was never a hit or miss. Every target was dead on.

This is my first Minelab, and I love it and am finding it easier to learn than than I was expecting (after 5 Whites). My first time out with the 3030 I tried to pinpoint by listing to the sounds while moving the coil in all directions and circles - didn't work. The first method I found that works for me is to turn on the pinpoint, then move the coil only left and right over the target - ignore the sounds and look for the spot where the red ball lights - stop at that spot and move the coil only forward and back ( to X the target) and look for the spot where the red ball lights. Always right on target for me. There are probably other good methods but I think this one takes good advantage of the "ratchet down" or "decreasing sensitivity pinpoint effect" the machine has.

I'm new to detecting and bought the ctx as my first machine. I pulled it out of the box and was finding coins the next day. Ive been on 17 hunts sense i bought it and have recovered $77 dollars in clad and 22 silver coins. This is a super easy machine to use and the pinpoint option is dead on. Nothing to it but to do it...... Have fun!
