3030 and diving

How many are using their 3030 for shallow water diving? Do you find the machine compact enough?

I just recently did the upgrade that frogmaster riviera did. I haven't had it diving yet as I am still working on my OW cert. Google diving with the CTX 3030, frogmaster riviera on another forum has some good YouTube videos. Takes his down about 40fsw. Seems to work good for him.

I second watching the videos by frog master riviera. Uses the 3030 fairly deep!

"When I was still with ML quite a few folk said they were using them in water....just because "It could".
How many [ dive ] with it? Again higher than those who never ventured into water.
But many also owned an Excalibur (or other water machine) and use it for real u/w use"

I'd guess it's above the average for use in and around water versus other machines that can't go there?

Hope this helps?"

40 feet! Holy cow. ..I would love to try out diving and detecting. But man I can hardly make it out now.

Des, feeling out the waters for some possible shorter lower rods.......

I will be diving with mine starting in July (that's when I will be OW cerified). I will give my feedback about a shorter rod then.

I dive with mine but not below 10 feet, I am going to do the "o" ring mods and will be diving with it much deeper. I generally use my Excal for scuba in the deeper 10+ foot range. I will say the CTX has much faster recovery while in Disc mode. Can't wait to use it after the "O" ring mod in deeper water. I will post the results.

I dove with mine down to around twenty feet, the new O ring upgrade is working well for me. My new problem is the GG underwater headphones seem to be failing, the first time out the signals were quite but I could still hear them down to about fifteen feet now they are too quite so I can't hear the signals. I checked them out on dry land and they are ok with my volume maxed out. Are there other headphones out there that are louder or is their a problem with the headphones that can be repaired? They are out of warranty and I am handy with a soldering iron.

For headphones build your own. I have 20+ dives on them and 0 issues. Waterproof Skullies. Have OBN build you the speakers.

I use mine for diving and I do not feel the machine is compact enough, a shorter diving shaft would be a welcome upgrade. I have done the Frogman O ring upgrade, the GGUW upgrade, and a 6" coil.

If you decide to fabricate a dive shaft let me know I would be interested. I would like to see some improved volume headphones too....

A question for you folks that dive with the CTX beyond the 10 ft design limit. What was your motivation? Is it that you felt it would give you better performance than say, an Excal, or CZ21, both of which were designed for using at extreme depth?

The CTX clearly has much better ability to I.D. targets than the dedicated water machines I mentioned, BUT, it just seems like a huge risk to take with a $2000.00 machine! You obviously feel the risk/reward is worth it.

I gotta admit, I admire your adventurous spirit!!

I've spent about a 75 hrs in dry and wet sand with my new 3030 & tomorrow I will start getting out beyond the normal beach detectorist's comfort zone of knee/waste deep water. Taking off the 17", throwing on the 11", getting the wet suit & snorkel on, 10 lb weighted belt & my scoop.
San Diego is a bit hard because the water isn't very calm or warm & the swells set up pretty far out. Hopefully I'll be able to get shoulder/neck height beyond the waves. If not then I may start looking at a snuba or equivalent. I've done the o ring upgrade right off the bat & have have GG amphibians.
I hunt in auto +2, beach, deep recovery, sizing pp, target trace, low trash or ferrous coin, volume at 30, GrayGhosts full blast. Might change in deeper water but I'll find out. I've read to turn on ground balance, then ground balance it, then turn it off. I pull stuff that is deeper than I care to dig most of the time. And I have a TRex 9.5 scoop.

I am a PADYcertified diver but never used any metal detector while diving. I am thinking about getting a tank and finding a diving buddy . I live in NJ, I never did any diving in Jersey waters. Anybody with any suggestions about diving in this area, I am all ears. I want to start in shallow river or lake water. Anybody with a regulator they want to sell, PM me.

Hi guys!

For those how appreciates risky detection: I broke the record of depth with my CTX3030 : 20,6M depth , 67,7ft

:twodetecting:

I haven't use it at tis depth, just watch my diving computer when back home and was suprised of the depth...I will not do it again!

This are picture from 5 to 10m (18 - 35ft down) with CTX3030 with my mod. My buddy Aquaman is there with an Excalibur II.
We both have the excellent Deteknix Xpointer Diver version which is still under development (beta version). It'll be available shortly!
