300 v SEF 10x12

I'm looking for a bigger coil for my MXT 300 has anybody compared the sef 10x12 or 12x15 against the stock 300 coil? and if so is there enough difference to justify the expenses? Any help would be great

Cheers Ron:ausflag:

What is better to eat, an apple or an orange? The 300 is a 12' conical, works best in mild to medium mineralized grounds. The SEF type coils work like a DD coil, best in very mineralized ground. Depth will depend on your ground conditions. Weight of the 12" and the 10X12 are about the same and the 12X15 is noticeably heavier. My advise is to try one and see if you like it or not and sell the one that you don't like.

I use the 10x12 sef dd coil on my mxt I am still learning things about it but I do like it, Just about everywhere I detect in my area the ground is high in minerals,
I couldn't get very good results with my 950 coil. since using it I have been getting deeper finds, one thing I have noticed about it some coins when you pin point
are an inch deeper that what my meter reads, but accuracy seems to be good as far as location, I seem to be able and separate targets OK. Even in some
of the higher mineral ground I can
crank it up some usually between 1 and three depending, I have been to a couple of areas it got a little erratic on me, but I think
there was high power lines buried some where, there was a Home Depot adjacent to the field I was detecting , only thing I can think of, but never had the problem any
where else. If you get one you need to try it out in a coin garden to check out your readings, for different depths that being said I like it and I think it is a good coil.

Thanks for the help guy's I might take your advice Larry and buy one i haven't any bad reports about the SEF.My plan is to use the SEF on the beach where the 300 gets a bit erratic. I don't think I will sell the 300 I'm sure it still has a place in my arsenal of coils I'll let you know if I change my mind

thanks again Ron:ausflag:
