Hey everyone,
I'm up north, not too far from Rick and James(NDs both). Been doing repairs around the cabin and haven't been out playing in the dirt as much as I would like.
Got permission to hunt an old cabin site this afternoon, Spent some time carp hunting with bow too. Much fun. Went to the cabin later in the afternoon and started detecting. Down by the water got alot of classic hot rock hits. Found a 1917-S merc by the side of the cabin, lots of shotgun brass, and what looks like a newer Henry rifle shell. I've found Henry's (not sure if the early Winchesters were .44 Rimfire too) before, usually don't have a head stamp. This has a U. I suppose they would have continued to make cartridges for these into the the 20th century. Later found a complete unfired cartridge. Some research is due.
Anyways got another hits that sounded much like a hot rock. Enough there though to give it a probe with the periscope. Very pretty signal, Dug up a big silver rim- half dollar. Turned out to be 1892-O Half. Checked out in my coin book when I got home and $110 in good in my 2000 coin book. This is fine. Don't think it is the micro o variety but need to check it out.
Bad news is I broke the tip on my periscope probe. Hopefully can get it repaired ASAP cause detecting without it is no fun.
