3 Ring weekend

The CTX 3030 was dialed in with 17 inch coil today. Junk ring and 10k white gold with 16 diamonds (test real) were straight down double scoops with the T Rex. My deepest yet with CTX. Both were choppy on the ID but sounded good so I dug. Lots of deep sinkers also. The tarnished silver dolphin ring was off a heavily mineralized rocky beach running a modified high trash mode on Saturday. At least a dozen detectorists on Coronado to try there at hand at recovering a silver dollar from the shipwreck SS Monte Carlo (1936). It's only exposed on occasion at negative low tides with sand pulled off. I got the 10k gold ring about 100 feet from a pow wow of 7 or 8 detectorists taking group photos of themselves. I couldn't believe they were standing around shootin the shit when it was only 1 hour after low tide...a -1.1. Happy hunting!

I did see that article on the internet and wanted to go and do some detecting at the site myself but couldn't break away. I also thought there has to be some coins out there from the sinking of the ship and it's great you came away with something at least! Persistence pays off and no doubt, there are many coins and collectables just a few inches from the reach of most detectors so it's probably worth a return visit at a N. low tide again:thumbup:

Yes, i think more sand would need to be removed to have any chance for the silver dollars...if they left a few or pocket spill. There was also a lot of trash and iron within a few feet from the ship making it more difficult. Interesting history! Thanks for the replies and happy hunting!

Howdy JP.Diggzzit--

Nice rings! Your persistence and tenacity certainly paid off! Did you show your finds to the detectorists that were shooting the @@###$$? I think that I would have hahahah. Best of luck and...

Happy Hunting!

Hey Squirrel. I briefly thought about walking over to them but did not want to get into a show and tell situation. I did talk to a couple fellow detectorists earlier in my hunt...just brief hellos and greetings. I have limited time to detect so I try to make the most of it and was working for another gold. I usually don't divulge my finds on the beach either. Looky Lou - "Find anything good today?" Me - "did you lose anything today?" Or "no, just some pull tabs and bottle caps!"...with a gold ring in my zip pocket on more than one occasion. They walk away with a smile and a laugh probably thinking what a fool...little do they know. Happy hunting!
