Had a pretty good hunt this afternoon at the park that I've been hunting lately. I posted about this site earlier, that it used to be the fairgrounds in the mid 1800's and that they've recently demolished and removed a swimming pool with its facilities and sidewalks. Earlier today I checked out a couple of sites where houses were torn down in the last several days but that was pretty much a complete bust, other than a few pieces of clad, so I figured I'd try the park again for a few hours instead. Ended up with two more Mercuries ('42 and '44), a 54 Rosie and not one but two indians (Yippee....I love indian head pennies and havn't found any nice ones in quite some time. The only other I found here was in very bad shape, it's in the pics last on the right). One indian is 1886 and the other 1907, the one in bad shape is a 1886 as well. Also found a neat little coin from Pakistan dated 1956 that has a hole drilled in it (cheaply make little thing, not even silver I don't think), as well as a play money dime, and a couple of wheaties that I havn't cleaned up yet. So far at this site I've found 6 mercs, 5 silver rosies, 1 barber dime, the three indians, getting close to about 50 wheaties, 1 silver Washington quarter ('57), a very pretty silver cross off of a rosary, a plain copper ring that was probably gold plated at one time (in pics), and some assorted clad change. Also mucho pull tabs and other trash, and a few other keeper-relics. I've really been hoping to pull some larger silvers out of this site but so far notta. Am thinking I will go back tomorrow for a few hours and either try and go over some areas I've not hit too hard yet or start cutting the site up into smaller areas and really go over it carefully. I know there's some deeper stuff there because I watched the construction crew pushing the dirt around. The same soil that is yielding the nicer coins now is deposited in layers up to a few feet deep in some spots. Obviously some of those coins will have to wait for someone in the future....I do good to find them 7 to 8 inches deep tops. Havn't found any good targets real deep yet but....I am loving this etrac! Everyone keep their fingers crossed that I find some big old silver tomorrow! A nice half dollar or maybe a barber quarter would sure make me feel all warm and fuzzy. Oh and while I'm wishing.....I would really like a seated dime too....lol.
